A water ballast for a compactor is disclosed. A ballast tank is installed under a cover plate having a plurality of holes. Through the holes of the cover plate, water falling onto the cover plate drains into the ballast tank. The edges all around the cover plate are slightly angled upwards in order to prevent water from draining out of the cover plate. Also, the water ballast has a ballast drain port on the compactor's frame. The machine may be re-oriented from a paving orientation to a transport orientation via a transport conversion mode of an automatic controller configured to spin the paving in place on the ground through a re-orientation angle, then rotate each of the crawler tracks relative to its respective swing leg until each crawler track is primarily oriented in a transport direction generally perpendicular to the paving direction, and then while moving the paving machine in the transport direction pivoting each of the swing legs relative to the frame until each swing leg is oriented primarily in the transport direction. An apparatus for controlling the movement of a material transfer vehicle with respect to the front end of a paving machine that is being supplied by the material transfer vehicle includes a controller that is mounted on the material transfer vehicle and is operatively connected to drive systems for controlling the steering and speed of the material transfer vehicle. A sensor is mounted on the material transfer vehicle and is operatively connected to the controller. The sensor is located and adapted to execute multiple non-contact sensor scan passes across the front end of the paving machine to determine the distance from the sensor to the paving machine. The sensor is also adapted to communicate information to the controller about the distance from the sensor to the paving machine. The apparatus includes no components that are mounted on the paving machine. 1. A road finishing machine comprises a tractor and a screed hinged to the tractor to be towed behind the tractor. At the tractor, a main control platform of the road finishing machine is provided which offers space for an operator and comprises operational controls for controlling functions of the road finishing machine. The main control platform has a roof, wherein a lighting unit with a light source is provided at the roof. The lighting unit comprises a housing which accommodates the light source and has a reflector. The reflector is configured to reflect light emitted by the light source into a working area of the screed so that the working area of the screed is illuminated indirectly. 1. A ventilation system and method for a cold planer are provided. The ventilation system includes a settling box inside a water tank. The settling box includes a body. The body includes at least one sidewall defining an air inlet having a first cross-section to accept dust and fumes generated by a milling drum operation of the cold planer but to reject particles from the milling drum operation at or above a predetermined size. The settling box further includes an air outlet having a second cross-section less than the first cross-section of the air inlet.
