A rockfall protection system may include a plurality of supports that each have a support head, along with a catch net, an upper support cable guiding an upper edge of the catch net at the support heads, and an upper central cable and a lower central cable guiding the catch net in a central support area of the supports. The lower central cable may be tensioned using side anchors provided with at least one braking element. The system may also include a lower support cable guiding a lower edge of the catch net and being guided together with the lower edge of the catch net on the downhill side of and separated from the supports. The braking element may be connected to the side anchor and to the central cable by a cable loop. The side anchor and central cable may be connected via a predetermined breaking point.

A system of the invention includes at least one barrier layer, a plurality of rockfall attenuators, and two primary anchor points to anchor opposite lateral sides of the barrier layer. The present invention discloses a combined energy dissipation scaffolding structure for preventing falling rock hazards for high and steep side slope during highway construction, which belongs to the field of prevention and cure against highway disaster and post-disaster reconstruction engineering in earthquake area. The combined energy dissipation scaffolding structure mainly comprises five parts: a top surface impact-resistance system closely jointed with the existing slope surface, a top surface support system composed of 3D stereographic steel frame systems, a scaffolding body structure composed of a cross beam and support steel-pipe posts at both sides, a mountain-side anchorage system for anchoring the top surface impact-resistance system and the scaffolding body structure, and an anchoring-type steel-plate concrete composite foundation, wherein a fixed base is welded with the bottom of the steel-pipe post and is driven in the foundation soils using anchor rods. The combined energy dissipation scaffolding structure not only can prevent potential safety hazards caused by dangerous crag falling rock at high and steep slope in a seismic region to highway construction and vehicle travelling, but can effectively improve the stability and anti-seismic capability of scaffolding structures. The attenuators are attached to the barrier mesh by a cable routed through a clevis/eyelet on each of the attenuators.
