Refractory material with stainless steel and organic fibers

A refractory includes a cement, a binder and a matrix. The matrix comprises both stainless steel fibers and organic fibers. The refractory can be easily cast, without additional steel reinforcement, into large fire wall 16 panels 10 capable of meeting the requirements of testing conducted in accordance with ASTM E-119, Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials in support of IEEE Std. 979-1994, Guide for Substation Fire Protection . The fire wall 16 assembly withstood the fire endurance test without passage of flame and gases hot enough to ignite cotton waste during a four-hour fire exposure. The assembly also withstood a 45 psi water stream for five minutes immediately following the four-hour fire exposure period. This is a stringent mechanical requirement, as all fire walls 16 must maintain their integrity before, during and after a fire, per the Universal Building Code's definition of a true fire wall 16.

The component includes a vapor-permeable membrane that resists penetration of liquids including water, but that permits gases including water vapor to pass through the membrane to resist buildup of moisture in the building component. A batten, such as an insulated batten, forms a cavity in the building component to facilitate air circulation, and reduces heat flow through structural studs of the building component to increase the overall insulation value of the finished component.

The present invention relates to a joint-sealing tape with an elongated carrier and at least two separate sealing elements of predetermined width, which are disposed on one side of the carrier, spaced apart, side-by-side and running in the longitudinal direction of the carrier, and which each have two oppositely disposed broad sides as well as two narrow sides running transversely relative to the broad sides and connecting them, wherein the sealing elements are disposed with one broad side on the carrier, wherein the sealing elements are each joined firmly to the carrier only via part of their broad side. Furthermore, the invention relates to a sealing arrangement for sealing of building structure joints, especially for sealing against sound and/or smoke and if applicable against fire, with such a sealing tape.

A top track seal is useful for sealing a movement joint between a fluted metal deck and an adjacent wall configuration. The top track seal includes a pre-formed sealing strip adapted to seal the movement joint and a first set of two or more sealing elements for sealing corrugations of the fluted metal deck. The sealing elements are spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the sealing strip and the distance between two consecutive sealing elements corresponds to the distance between two consecutive corrugations of the metal deck. Each sealing element is moldable and has a predefined geometry. Also, an assembly includes this top track seal. Furthermore, a method is useful for installing a wall configuration to a fluted metal deck with corrugations. 1. Embodiments can include tracks for holding studs which incorporate various geometries capable of receiving fire-retardant material, including but not limited to intumescent material. The fire-retardant material can be attached to compressible backer rods inserted within deflection gaps in the wall systems such that the fire-retardant material expands and seals gaps and/or areas between the tracks and wall components such as ceilings, floors, and drywall. Various metal framing members enhance thermally insulative characteristics of a wall. Framing members include a metal stud with a web portion having through-holes that include at least one piece of retained material. Each of the through-holes lengthens or disrupts thermally conductive paths across the framing member, forming convoluted or serpentine thermal paths. The through-holes are arranged in a pattern that defines a truss structure that includes a number of straight-line web sections that extend uninterruptedly diagonally across a width of the web portion. Framing members include tracks, to hold metal studs, each with a web portion with through-holes that lengthen or disrupt thermally conductive paths. The framing members may be the result of a continuous manufacturing processing, formed of a unitary singular piece of material (e.g., galvanized metal). Thermally insulative gaskets or membranes may insulate the tracks from adjacent structure or surfaces. Structures may be provided as a kit.

An improved fire-blocking gasket profile for a fire-rated joint, such as a head-of-wall assembly. Fire-rated joints are aimed at inhibiting or preventing fire, heat, or smoke from leaving one portion of a building and entering another portion of a building. Fire-rated joints can also accommodate movement between adjacent building structures, such as between a ceiling and the top of a wall. The improved fire-blocking gasket profile includes a first layer formed of an intumescent material, a second layer formed of a foil lining and a third layer formed of the vinyl profile. The vinyl profile includes an air gap with the intumescent material positioned therein. A vertical portion of the vinyl profile is positioned between a header track and a wallboard in the fire-rated joint. A horizontal portion of the vinyl profile is positioned at least partially within a deflection gap and sealingly engages with the ceiling.

A fire-rated wall deflection joint comprising:an inner track extending in a lengthwise direction of the deflection joint, the inner track comprising a web, a first flange and a second flange, the first and second flanges extending from the web in first direction, wherein each of the first flange and the second flange includes a free end such that the web, the first flange, and the second flange define a substantially U-shaped cross section;an outer member extending in the lengthwise direction, the outer member comprising a central portion and first and second peripheral portions, the outer member disposed over the inner track such that the central portion overlays the web of the inner track, the first peripheral portion overlays the first flange and the second peripheral portion overlays the second flange;a first seal coupled with the first peripheral flange, a first end of the first seal extending beyond the central portion;a plurality of studs coupled with the inner track and at least one piece of wallboard attached to the plurality of studs; andwherein the inner track and the outer member are coupled to an adjacent structure and the first end of the first seal contacts the adjacent structure to create a seal therewith.3.
