An engineered wood handrail for use in stairways and balustrade systems. The engineered handrail includes a top layer, two lower side layers and a lower middle layer which are glued and laminated together. The three layers and core include short lengths or planks of wood which are glued together using finger joints to produce long pieces of material. A modified finger joint known as a staggered shoulder joint is used to improve the outer appearance of the handrail by allowing most of the finger joints to be hidden between the layers.

Provided in this disclosure is a selectively replaceable spindle for a banister. The spindle includes a generally longitudinal body having first and second ends for respectively engaging recesses on opposing surfaces of a handrail and a lower rail of a banister. A securement mechanism is attached to either of the first or second ends of the body, for releasably securing the respective end to the respective recess. The securement mechanism includes a spring-biased clip extending from the respective end of the body that is urged into contact with the respective recess. A lever is attached to the spring-biased clip for compressing an internal spring and enabling retraction of the spring-biased clip from the respective recess. A securing system for use with glass panels is provided. The securing system provides clamping and securing forces to a panel held within a base shoe system, e.g., of a frameless glass guard railing. A method , comprising:inserting a mounting pipe in a support pipe, wherein the mounting pipe comprises a plurality of threaded holes, wherein the support pipe comprises a plurality of holes that are aligned with the plurality of threaded holes of the mounting pipe, wherein at least one end of the support pipe is attached to a least one support block;fitting a post over the support block, the mounting pipe and the support pipe, wherein the post comprises at least one hole for aligning with at least one of the plurality of threaded holes of the mounting pipe; andattaching a threaded portion of an anchor to the mounting pipe via a first hole of the plurality of threaded holes, wherein the anchor is for securing an end of a cable rail to the mounting pipe.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the threaded portion of the anchor is passed through the at least one hole of the post and through at least one of the plurality of holes of the support pipe.3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:securing the cable rail to the mounting pipe using the anchor.4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the securing is performed prior to the attaching.5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:attaching a non-cable hardware item to the mounting pipe via a second hole of the plurality of threaded holes.6. A hand rail system and associated methods. Newel posts of the hand rail system can be mounted in a top mount configuration or a lateral mount configuration. Mounts are receivable in a boot subassembly in a horizontal or vertical arrangement for anchoring the boot subassembly to substructure.
