A window having a frame with at least two oppositely disposed side members, a top member, and a bottom member. Operably connected to each frame side member is a jamb liner having a front face and at least one jamb channel. Mounted within the frame is at least one sash having two oppositely disposed sides. The sash tilts away from the frame for easy cleaning. Within each jamb channel is a locking slide block for slidably and rotatably mounting the sash to the frame. A plough extends from the face of each jamb liner in the direction of the opposite frame side member. Each side of the sash has a sash groove for slidably mounting the sash in the frame by receiving adjacent ploughs. The plough and sash grooves have interlocking edges which engage to resist unintentional tilting of the sash. The jamb liner is mounted for lateral displacement from a first position wherein the plough is engaged with a sash groove to a second position wherein the plough is at least partially retracted from the groove so that the window can be tilted. There is a counterbalance operatively connected to the frame which has a counterbalance tab with an elongated portion having a flange proximate one end for connecting the counterbalance to the locking slide block.

In sash windows where the sashes are supported on window units which run in channels in a window frame, and the window units are suspended from spring balances, the shoes have easily accessible mechanisms for adjusting the tension in the spring balances, without demounting the sashes and without separating the spring balances from the shoes. Adjustment is done by rotating an element in the shoes, at the bottom of the sash, with the sash pivoted out of the plane of the window. A tool is inserted in a socket to turn an element of the shoe exposed by the tilting of the sash, and the rotation of this element is transferred through 90° to vary the tension in the respective balance.

The sash cord is directed over a sheave and either through an aperture in the block or guided along the surface of the block to be clamped against the block or within the block upon rotation of a shaft member therein coupled through a pin to the sash. The clamping action takes place through an eccentric surface on the shaft member through a cam follower operated by the shaft member, or through a pivoted lever attached to the shaft member. All variations of the clamping action operate with rotation of the shaft member caused by tilt of the window.

The computer casing has a front face(11) having an upper wall(12) placed over an access opening through which a user can access the computers reading systems. A spring is connected between the door(13) and the front face(11) and is used to lever the door(13) between its closed and opened positions. An elongated cover is removably mounted to a channel guide of a jamb liner for a window unit that is mounted for movement between opened and closed positions. A balance spring in the channel guide has one portion attached to the top end of the jamb liner and an opposite end mounted to a balance shoe which frictionally engages the channel guide. The shoe is mounted to the lower end portion of the window unit. The cover includes a longitudinally elongated main body extendable within the channel guide, a resilient tube mounted to one transverse edge of the main body to abut against a channel guide side wall and rear wall to resiliently urge the main body away therefrom and a mounting joined to the main body transversely opposite the tube for forming a channel to engage a flange of the channel guide. The resilient action of the tube releaseably couples the cover to the channel guide to conceal the spring which extends above the window unit when the unit is closed or partially opened.

Pulleys of a block and tackle window balance include hub steps that interact with other components to reduce the introduction of dirt and dust particles into areas vulnerable to wear. The hub steps of some of the pulleys are recesses formed about the axial bores of the pulleys that mate with protrusions on an axle and a washer. The hub steps of other pulleys are protrusions that abut a support plate and heads of rivets that act as axles. The hub steps allow inverse mounting of the window balance so that the balance can be mounted in a shoe channel for movement with a sash of the window, attached to the sash shoe, and the cord can be attached to the jamb or frame, thus increasing sash travel.

Flanges are joined to the guides for forming a close fit with the adjacent window unit while, to each guide, there is joined a wing to form a seal with the web of the adjacent jamb to block fluid flow between the window units and the side jamb from one transverse side of the unit sash to the other. The wings of the liner are arcuately curved to transversely diverge from one another in a direction toward the jamb web. The wings are of a substantially greater resiliency than the rest of the liner, said rest of the liner being semi-rigid and made of extruded plastic.

Reinforcement longitudinal folds are provided on the blade assemblies that coact with the support surface for transmitting the wind load to the frame assembly directly.

Das Federelement stellt eine Federkraft als Antriebskraft (FAN) zum Anheben der vertikal verschieblichen Fassadenkomponente zur Verfügung. Das Federelement ist zwischen einem komprimierten Zustand (PK) und einem expandierten Zustand (PE) bewegbar. Die Federkraft hat beim Bewegen von dem komprimierten Zustand in den expandierten Zustand einen abnehmenden Wert. Der Kompensator kompensiert das Abnehmen der Antriebskraft wenigstens teilweise und stellt eine Abtriebskraft (FAB) zur Verfügung, die weniger stark abnimmt als die Antriebskraft.

Counterbalance mechanisms for a vertically movable sash have components extending downward within guides on which the sash moves. The guides can move laterally of the sash to allow the sash to tilt and be removed from the window, and the counterbalance components are arranged within the guides to accommodate such lateral movement. Slots in the guides accommodate interconnections between counterbalance components within the guides and the sash running vertically against outward surfaces of the guides, and these interconnections also allow lateral movement of the guides and tilting of the sash. The guides are mounted on window jambs by resilient elements that bias the guides into engagement with sash grooves and also accommodate lateral movement of the guides out of the sash grooves, to allow the sash to tilt.

A method and apparatus for reducing the torque of a compound balance in order to substantially cancel out the torsional force of the torsion spring acting on the spiral rod by creating an equal and opposing torsional force on the extension spring. The apparatus is an assembly connector that is non-permanently engaged with the extension spring, with the spiral rod being tensioned by the torsional force of the torsion spring. Alternatively, the extension spring may be turned in a direction to apply more torque than is required for operation of the compound balance. It is then engaged with a non pre-tensioned spiral rod sub-assembly to transfer the excess torque to the torsion spring of the spiral rod sub-assembly. In this manner, the opposing torsional forces of the torsion spring and the extension spring acting on the spiral rod substantially cancel out each other.

A method and apparatus for reducing the torque of a compound balance in order to substantially cancel out the torsional force of the torsion spring acting on the spiral rod by creating an equal and opposing torsional force on the extension spring. The apparatus is an assembly connector that is non-permanently engaged with the extension spring, with the spiral rod being tensioned by the torsional force of the torsion spring. Alternatively, the extension spring may be turned in a direction to apply more torque than is required for operation of the compound balance. It is then engaged with a non pre-tensioned spiral rod sub-assembly to transfer the excess torque to the torsion spring of the spiral rod sub-assembly. In this manner, the opposing torsional forces of the torsion spring and the extension spring acting on the spiral rod substantially cancel out each other.

Secured to the top of the sash coupling is the lower end of a flexible sash cable, the outer end of which extends upward to and around a stationary outer pulley pivotally mounted on a transverse pulley support at the top of the sash guide, whence an intermediate section of the cable extends downward to and around a vertically-movable traveling pulley mounted on a balancing-spring coupling to which the upper end of the elongated sash-balancing tension spring is hooked, whence an inner section of the cable extends upward to an anchorage on the upper end of the sash guide. The lower end of the elongated sash-balancing spring is hooked over the lower end of the sash guide. For a double-hung sliding sash installation, the upper sash is balanced in a similar manner. For By arranging in this manner the sash cable in three sections around two pulleys, the stretch of the sash balancing spring is reduced to but a fraction of the distance through which the sash is moved during the opening operation thereof. The present invention is a window regulator mechanism for moving a window panel mounted within a motor vehicle door. The mechanism comprises an elongated guide rail (18) member mounted within the vehicle door. A window moving structure (94) engages the window panel and is slidably mounted on the guide rail member (18) to allow the window panel to be moved generally vertically with respect to the vehicle door. A manually operated actuating mechanism slidably moves the window moving structure (94) along the guide rail member (18). An elongated, flexible counterbalancing member (90) is constructed and arranged to apply a counterbalancing force to the window panel that opposes a force of gravity acting on the window panel. The counterbalancing member has a first end (96) fixedly attached within the motor vehicle door, a second end (92) fixedly attached to the window moving structure (94), and an intermediate portion extending over a guiding portion (102) disposed above an uppermost position of the window moving structure. The counterbalancing member is formed from a flexible elastomeric material and is elastically deformed to an initial elastically deformed state when the window moving structure is in its uppermost position. The counterbalancing member is configured to elastically deform beyond its initial elastically deformed state as the window panel moves downwardly with respect to the vehicle door against the counterbalancing force of the counterbalancing member to thereby oppose the force of gravity acting on the window panel and thereby provide a controlled, downward movement of the window panel. The counterbalancing member resiliently returns to its initial elastically deformed state as the window panel moves upwardly with respect to the vehicle door. The counterbalancing member applies the counterbalancing force to oppose the force of gravity acting on the window panel as the window panel moves upwardly to thereby facilitate upward movement of the window panel.

[Class 20 (iii)] Sliding window sashes of the kind which are balanced by spring - controlled nut and screw are provided with nuts axially fixedbut rotatable in tubular casings B on the sash, and on a screw I fixed to a bracket on the window frame. The torsion spring J is secured to the nut and to a member K freely slidable along the screw I but held against rotation by the casing B or by a projection and slot in the casing. The pitch of the screw may be varied, the engagement with the nut being secured by a ball engaging a semicircular section groove and recess in the members. The nut may be stopped against downward movement by a compression spring L engaging the non-rotatable and slidable member K, Fig. 3. Two balancing devices or a single control one may be provided and when the movement of the nut is to be shortened the casing B and the screw I are pivoted in an inclined position to the sash and frame at R, and Q respectively, Fig. 6. The sash is removably secured by screws C to flanges on the casing B. Side-play and vibration of the window sash is prevented by spring-pressed blocks S, Fig. 1, slidable in inclined housings on the sash and engaging the frame.

A window having a frame with at least two oppositely disposed side members, a top member, and a bottom member. Operably connected to each frame side member is a jamb liner having a front face and at least one jamb channel. Mounted within the frame is at least one sash having two oppositely disposed sides. The sash tilts away from the frame for easy cleaning. Within each jamb channel is a locking slide block for slidably and rotatably mounting the sash to the frame. A plough extends from the face of each jamb liner in the direction of the opposite frame side member. Each side of the sash has a sash groove for slidably mounting the sash in the frame by receiving adjacent ploughs. The plough and sash grooves have interlocking edges which engage to resist unintentional tilting of the sash. The jamb liner is mounted for lateral displacement from a first position wherein the plough is engaged with a sash groove to a second position wherein the plough is at least partially retracted from the groove so that the window can be tilted. There is a counterbalance operatively connected to the frame which has a counterbalance tab with an elongated portion having a flange proximate one end for connecting the counterbalance to the locking slide block.

An interior storm window assembly, mounted to an interior building wall over a window opening containing a prime window therein is provided, having double hung, vertically movable window pane members received within opposing, self-locating vertical channels and pivotally attached to adjustable weight balancing elements within those channels. The frame structure of the window assembly, including the peripheral rail about each window pane member and the vertical channels, is formed from plastic material, such as vinyl, having low thermal conductivity, and a rigid, reinforcing rod, preferably of metal, is inserted within the plastic rail at the bottom of each window pane member. The vertical channels apply pressure inwardly to those peripheral rails to releasably retain the window pane members in vertical orientation as well as urge the peripheral rails laterally into sealing contact with the vertical channels. An interlocking seal arrangement is also provided between the peripheral rails for further securing against air flow when the window assembly is closed. Weather stripping on the peripheral rails is biased into engagement with compressive ribs on the vertical channels, creating a tortuous air flow path therebetween.

An adjustable window construction is disclosed wherein improved sash carriers prevent damage to any of the components of the window assembly when the sash is forcibly raised to its uppermost position, or when the sash is disengaged from the upwardly biased sash carriers during removal of the sash. When a sash carrier reaches its uppermost position, the novel tapered upper end of the sash carrier gradually engages and wedges within the lower end of the spring cover located above it, slowing the sash carrier and dissipating much of its kinetic energy to reduce the force of final impact of the sash carrier with the spring cover.

WEATHER STRIP AND BALANCE ASSEMBLY FRO NONREMOVABLE WINDOWS Abstract of the Disclosure This invention relates to a window structure employing an improved weather strip and balance assembly for nonremovable windows in which the weather strip is made of a compressable, high impact material with ridges thereon to mount the sash. The ridges also mount and enclose the balance springs and pulley blocks with the sash cord coupled thereto for counter-balancing the weight of the sash. The sash cord is directed out from behind the weather strip through an opening therein to connect to the sash through an anchor. The length of the sash cord at the connection of the sash is adjustable to adjust the tension of the balance system applied to the sash. The assembly is readily assembled in side jambs of a window frame by securing the same thereto, such as by screws. The assembly is manufatured, shipped and stored without tension thereon to eliminate warpage and displacement of parts.

A hybrid sash counterbalance and assist operated window includes a frame having upper and lower sashes slidable within the frame. A sash coupling element extends between the upper and lower sashes. A counterbalance and assist mechanism is coupled with the sash coupling element. The hybrid sash counterbalance and assist mechanism is operable in a sash counterbalance mode and an independent sash movement mode. In the sash counterbalance mode, movement of the upper or lower sash causes converse movement of the lower or upper sash through the sash coupling element, and the movement of the upper or lower sash is assisted by the converse movement. In a first independent sash movement mode, one of the upper and lower sashes is held static while the other of the lower or upper sashes is moved, and the moved sash is assisted by the counterbalance and assist mechanism.

A window and door opening and closing mechanism is disclosed which is particularly well suited for use in casement and awning window fittings. The opening/closing mechanism has a hinge arrangement with two linked arms, the lever arm (14) and connecting arm (22). These two arms are coupled to two pivot mounts on the opposite ends of an elongated frame member (12), where at least one pivot mount is attached to a slider (16) and is movable along the track (13) of the frame (12) in relation to the pivot mounting of the other arm. The other end of the connecting arm (22) is pivotally coupled at an intermediate portion of the lever arm (14). The mechanism is operable by way of a cable or cord (26), which has portions wound around a spool (24). The spool (24) is rotated by a driving mechanism by either mechanical or electrical means. Winding the spool (24) in one direction applies a tension to one portion of the cord or cable (26) to apply a force between the pivot mountings of the arms and draw them together on the runner (12) to open the window by pivoting the arms outwardly from the window frame. Winding the spool (24) in the other direction applies a tension to another portion of the cord or cable (26) coupled to one of the arms to draw them back toward the runner (12) and close the window. When tension is first applied to the opening cable (26) portion, initial limited movement of a wedge member (17) by means of a sliding spring limit can be used to initiate angular movement of the arms whilst the respective pivot mountings thereof are substantially aligned along the runner (12).

A window and door opening and closing mechanism is disclosed which is particularly well suited for use in casement and awning window fittings. Winding the spool in one direction applies a tension to one portion of the cord or cable to apply a force between the pivot mountings of the arms and draw them together on the runner to open the window by pivoting the arms outwardly from the window frame. Winding the spool in the other direction applies a tension to another portion of the cord or cable coupled to one of the arms to draw them back toward the runner and close the window. When tension is first applied to the opening cable portion, initial limited movement of a wedge member can be used to initiate angular movement of the arms whilst the respective pivot mountings thereof are substantially aligned along the runner.

An improved load compensator for a spring counter-weighting mechanism including a snail cam to provide a constant counter-weight force is described. The cam provides a constant torque to a drum on which are wound cables for exerting a constant counter-weighting force. A manually operable device for altering the relative radial positions of the cam and drum varies the amount of the constant counter-weighting force. The cam is rotated with respect to the drum by a spur gear fitting within a ring gear fixed to the drum and rotated by a knob connected to an axle carrying a pinion gear engaging the spur gear. The spiral surface can be effectively reconfigured with respect to a portion of the cable fitting therearound.

The present invention is directed to a locking slide block slidably and pivotably mounting a window sash to a side member of a window frame having a vertical jamb channel. The locking slide block has a housing with oppositely disposed sliding surfaces for guiding the housing in the jamb channel. Operably connected to the housing is a locking means for selectively engaging the jamb channel and locking the housing in a fixed position, and a cam for selectively operating the locking means. A sash pivot operatively connected to the cam is operably connectable to the sash. The housing also has a sash pivot retainer spring. A retaining means is utilized to protect a free second end of the retainer spring from bowing and deforming due to forces applied to the window sash in operation.
