The resulting cavity between the lites is evacuated to create at least one insulating vacuum cavity within which are disposed a plurality of stand-off members to maintain separation between the lites. The edge seal assembly is preferably compliant in the longitudinal (i.e., edgewise) direction to allow longitudinal relative motion between the two lites (e.g., from thermal expansion). The longitudinal compliance may be obtained by imprinting a three-dimensional pattern into the edge seal material. The edge seal assembly is preferably bonded to the lites with a first bond portion that is hermetic and a second bond portion that is load-resistant. Methods for producing VIGUs and/or compliant edge seal assemblies and VIGU and edge seal apparatus are disclosed.

This disclosure describes methods for making insulated door panels using separate façade members, in order to separate the manufacturing process of the exterior cosmetic design surface from the structural components of the door panels. The method includes the steps of providing a solid flat door skin, moisturizing the flat skin, applying a conditioning resin thereto, pre-heating the flat door skin, and thereafter pressing the flat door skin between a pair of heated platens in a press in order to reform the flat skin into a molded skin including a plurality of panels defined therein. The press continuously closes in order to reform the flat skin into the molded skin, with the rate of press closure being a function of the determined hardness of the flat skin to be reformed. The resulting door skins have an improved bond strength, and are efficiently manufactured.

A vacuum insulating glazing unit (VIGU) comprises two or more glass lites (panes) spaced apart from one another and hermetically bonded to an edge seal assembly therebetween. The resulting cavity between the lites is evacuated to create at least one insulating vacuum cavity within which are disposed a plurality of stand-off members to maintain separation between the lites. The edge seal assembly is preferably compliant in the longitudinal (i.e., edgewise) direction to allow longitudinal relative motion between the two lites (e.g., from thermal expansion). Improvements in or relating to transparent units (such as glazing units, which may also be referred to as insulating glass units) and their methods of manufacture are disclosed. Each transparent unit comprises first and second panes of transparent material each having an outwardly facing side and an inwardly facing side. Each inwardly facing side is at least partially coated with a reactive interlayer made by the application of a reactive interlayer coating composition. The inwardly facing side of the first and second panes of transparent material are spaced apart partially or totally by a transparent spacer made of a pre-cured condensation curable material or a substantially pre-cured condensation curable material adhered to the inwardly facing side of the first and second panes of transparent material by way of the reactive interlayers. In various embodiments, the pre-cured condensation curable material is a silicone based material.
