An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be used to deliver a descent system to an elevated location at which people await rescue, such as people trapped in an upper story of a burning building. The UAV may deliver the descent system, attach it to the building, and deploy the descent system. After deployment, the descent system may be tensioned to prevent sway and facilitate descent. Standoffs may be installed or integrated into the descent system to provide for adequate handholds for descending individuals. Various equipment and methods used in such systems are described herein.

The invention relates to a ladder that includes a support device. A mounting plate is securely fixed to an outer surface of a side rail of a ladder, which is adjacent to one end of the ladder. A removable wheel assembly has a frame that is removably supported on mating interfitting parts between the wheel assembly and the support member or plate. The support member includes a bracket member and a rotatable device, such as a wheel, that is housed in the bracket member. The bracket member includes a U-shaped section for retaining the wheel member, and an elongated section for attachment to the ladder. The device is used for easily moving the ladder from one place to another. The interchange from one ladder to another is simply by unbuckling it from one ladder, pulling it off, sliding it on the new ladder, and buckling it back on. The ladder wheel should be placed between the top of the ladder and the first step from the top of the ladder.
