Until now, the only way to add oil to a vehicles engines oil filler port and be confidant you would not spill the oil was to use a funnel or spout. These devices can be messy and are not always available. If you keep them in your vehicle they can stain the inside of the vehicle or become lost. My invention stays on the engine at all times and allows a person to add oil to the engine without the use of funnels or spouts and greatly reduces the chance of spilling the oil on the engine or ground. With the device always attached to the engine a person never has to look for a funnel or spout to add oil. The oil can be added and there is no extra devices that have to be stored or kept track of.

Once the outlet of a standard quart container of engine oil is placed into the collapsible funnel to engage the cap structure, the funnel may then collapse to its resting position while passing engine oil from the standard quart container to the engine block. A plurality of radial slots are formed in the tank wall to extend radially of the skirt adjacent the receiving ends of the cam surfaces. A spout is formed having a radially extending shoulder and a lower portion with a plurality of radially extending tabs. An annular seal recess is dis-posed in the tank wall for receiving a seal. The spout is inserted into the opening by passing the tabs through the slots to engage the tabs with the receiving end of the cam surfaces and the spout is rotated to move the tabs along the cam surfaces until they snap into position in the locking recesses to compress the seal between the shoulder in the spout and the seal recess.

ABSTRACT An improved engine construction is disclosed having a valve train including valves and corresponding valve stems for controlling the intake and exhaust ports, cams for imparting reciprocating motion to the valves by way of the valve train, and a valve spring for biasing each valve toward its closed position and the valve train into tracking relation with the cam. The only element of the valve train coupling a cam to a stem is a cam follower with a depression for receiving the corresponding stem end and a cam engaging surface opposite the depression with the cam follower being held captive intermediate the stem and cam solely by the spring biasing of the stem toward the cam and the engagement of the stem end and the depression. The spring biasing is provided by a coiled wire spring having outwardly extending legs each of which engages a corresponding stem to urge the valves toward their closed position. The bight or coiled portion of the spring is held in a relatively fixed position by a portion of the engine casting. Another feature of the engine resides in the engine block casting which includes an exhaust gas passageway extending from an engine cylinder and including near the end thereof remote from the cylinder an enlarged cavity which defines at least a part of a muffler shell. Numerous other elements may be cast integral with the engine block including a boss for attaching a pull rope recoil starter assembly along with an anchoring point for one end of the rewind spring of that starter assembly and retaining guides for the rope of the starter assembly. A sealing cap has an external cover section of external diameter greater than a circular sealing face about an opening. An internal cover projects into the opening, and a tightener is provided. A diametral handle is molded on the external cover section and has a U-shaped stirrup with two legs connecting it to the external cover section, and a wall extending along the center of the stirrup and connecting it to the external cover section. The improvement of the invention is that each cover section is made as a one-piece molding, and the legs of the stirrup are spaced by not less than the external diameter of the cover section sealing face, and the length of the wall, longitudinally of the stirrup, is less than the internal diameter of the cover sealing face.

A molded cap is disclosed having a sealing ring groove just below the cap handle in order to seal crank case gases in an internal combustion engine. The cap includes two spiral grooves for engaging a respective protrusion formed on the inner annular surface of an oil fill snout which receives the cap. A recess is formed at the end of each spiral groove for receiving a respective protrusion to lock the cap into the oil fill snout. The oil fill snout has a draft angle to provide an outside vertical force component on the cap and sealing ring. The vertical force locks the protrusions into the respective recesses and provides a positive sealing force to the sealing ring when the cap is twisted into the snout and into the closed position. The two spiral grooves increase the resistance to back out and create symmetric force components. At the entrance of each groove, a lead-in angle is used to free the cap from the cover by continuing to turn the cap in a counter-clockwise motion.
