Because the efficiency of the thermal energy storage technology is inherently restricted, its beneficial use is limited to very particular economic boundary conditions, i.e. a large difference between the value of electricity going intothe unit and the value of electricity coming out of the unit. A system and method for stopping a wind turbine in a battery charging circuit includes a step to terminate battery charging by opening a first switch between an electrical generator coupled to the wind turbine and the battery. A second switch between the electrical generator output terminals is then closed in order to short the generator, create a drag on the wind turbine and ultimately stop its rotation. The signal to open the first switch is generated by a battery charge monitor which when sensing a full charge on the battery will open the first switch and close the second switch. In another embodiment, there is a wind turbine auto stop signal generator connected to the battery monitor to close the second switch upon receipt of a signal indicating full battery charge from the battery monitor. In yet another embodiment there is a remotely located control computer networked to the battery monitor and the wind turbine auto stop signal generator. In still another embodiment the computer is able to receive data inputs from a variety of sources, such as weather services, to assess conditions dangerous to wind turbine operation.

Thus, a method for operating a wind turbine, a wind farm or the like and a power-to-gas unit connected electrically thereto is provided. The wind turbine or the wind farm generates electric power if there is sufficient wind and feeds this power into an electrical grid connected to the wind turbine or to the wind farm. Each wind turbine is operated with a predetermined power curve. Electric power is generated by the wind turbine or the wind farm once a first wind speed (starting wind) has been reached. The wind turbine or the wind farm is in a partial-load operating mode as long as the wind speed is between the first wind speed (starting wind) and a second wind speed (nominal wind). The wind turbine or the wind farm is in a nominal power range when the wind speed is in a range which is greater than the second wind speed (nominal wind speed). Electric power generated by the wind turbine or the wind farm, preferably at least a predetermined proportion of said power, is consumed in the power-to-gas unit, with the result that a combustible gas, in particular hydrogen and/or methane gas or the like, is generated in the power-to-gas unit. A water relocation apparatus is provided which uses water as a means for transferring energy from the wind and sun into electricity. Wind and the sun may be used to displace water from a water container means. The water container means has a water container member which may be partially submerged in a water supply or reservoir, or it may be connected remotely. The water container means also has a water transport member connected to it, through which water from the water reservoir may move into the water container member. The water from the supply or reservoir will move into the water container member as the water displacement process begins. A conventional windmill system may be used to mechanically displace the water, or an evaporation system utilizing one or more lenses may be used to evaporate the water. An electric generator means may be operatively connected to the water container means in such a manner that the movement of the water through said water transport member may be used to generate electricity. In an alternate configuration, a water condenser means may be connected to the water container means in such a manner that the evaporated water may be transformed back into liquid form and returned to the reservoir or collected for possible residential, commercial, or industrial uses. The various components of the water displacement means and electricity generation means, along with the water condenser means, may also be used in various combinations to displace larger amounts of water. 1. The invention provides a device for generating high pressure air. The device comprises a block having an external surface and an internal surface, said internal surface defining an internal cavity in said block. A rotor located inside said cavity is capable of rotating about under the influence of wind energy. The block is capable of moving relative to the rotor in a direction orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the rotor so as to vary the position of the rotor within the cavity. A plurality of vanes extend from the rotor, and are coupled to the rotor in such a manner that, in every position that the block is capable of adopting relative to the rotor, the rotor is capable of rotating within the cavity while maintaining a seal between each vane and the internal surface of the block. There is a gas inlet channel and a gas outlet channel on an opposite side of the block to the gas inlet channel. The device also comprises a position controller for causing the block to move relative to the rotor so as to vary the position of the rotor within the cavity.

According to the present invention, use is made of a drag-type blade in which the blade is constituted vertically and in multiple blocks while the inside thereof is formed so as to have an overlapping region, thereby achieving an aerodynamic characteristic whereby there is a large initial torque for rotating the blade of the wind energy electricity generator from the stationary state such that the rotational moment is increased. On the outside thereof, use is made of airfoil-type blades, thereby obtaining rapid rotational acceleration with tip-speed ratio no less than 1.0 and effecting wind energy electricity generation even with a low wind velocity regardless of the wind direction, and thus the present invention is economic and can be installed at low cost unaffected by place or position and is environmentally friendly while nevertheless being able to effect highly efficient wind energy electricity generation.

A generator connection arrangement for connecting the output of a wind generator to an inverter comprises an input for connection to the output of a wind generator 1, an output for connection to an inverter 6, and a back-up power supply 11 for selectively outputting a voltage for powering at least one control circuit of the inverter, dependent on the voltage at the input of the grid-tie. The back-up supply can continue to power the control circuit of the inverter in a prolonged period of little or no wind so that the inverter does not switch off. The back-up power supply may also supply the voltage to the input of the generator connection arrangement. The back-up power supply is thus able to power the control circuits of a wind generator having its output connected to the input of the grid tie, so that the control circuit of the wind generator do not switch off even in a prolonged period of little or no wind.

Many different materials may be used, such as activated carbon (especially associated with aramid fabrics), hydroxide coated textiles, hydroxyl ion rich cloth (e. g. wool), or coatings or films of titanium dioxide. After pollutant capture the materials or fabrics may be regenerated, burned with biomass, or disposed of.
