In the case of a nut-side thin joint member, a metal plate of boron steel obtained by adding boron to low-carbon steel is burred such that the resulting cylindrical body obtains a surface that is sufficient for threading, then a threaded portion having a plurality of threads is formed on that surface, after which, quenching is carried out to increase the strength of the threads so that a nut having sufficient strength can be integrally provided even though the thickness and weight of the joint member are reduced.

The self-locking connector secures square or rectangular hollow section members at the joints of furniture pieces etc. It comprises two dissimilar parts (A & B). The main part (A) is a plate (1) with two edges (a,a') which bear on the walls of a member being secured, using two cranked flaps (2',2) to form a 'U' section tail. The second part is a rectangular spacer (B) which fits between the flaps (2) and the member being secured, and permits location of the connector in preparation for the fixing of transverse members. The plane contg. the arrisses is angled to the plate, the fitting forming a grip on one of the transverses once pivoted until the edges bite into the walls. The arrisses may be incorporated in a rectangular window in an angled extension of the plate.
