An oil reservoir is formed between the inner periphery of the housing and the outer periphery of the bearing member at the end portion of the opening side of the housing. Durch Anordnung von mindestens zwei magnetischen Elementen (50, 55), die in Axialrichtung so beabstandet und befestigt sind, daß sie axiale Lagerkräfte aufnehmen, wird ein Axiallager mit wesentlich geringeren Radialkräften und somit geringerer Belastung der Radiallager geschaffen. Permanent magnet bearings are incorporated into rotating equipment, such as induction machines, in addition to active magnetic or lubricated primary shaft support bearings. The passive magnetic bearings incorporate permanent magnets that generate directionally oriented magnetic fields of selective intensity. The magnetic field directions are aligned with a desired shaft support bearing preload direction and intensity, for example to exert axial thrust or radial preloads on the support bearings. A plurality of magnetic bearings may be oriented in opposed relationship with neutral or offsetting resultant forces. The passive magnetic force preload may be utilized to offset rotor vertical weight during induction startup or stopping cycles. Passive magnetic force preload may be applied to lubricated bearings to assure their operational stability. The passive magnetic bearings can also absorb radial or axial thrust forces imparted on the rotor shaft during induction machine operation, that may reduce machine operational noise, and energy consumption

The invention relates to a rotary-anode X-ray tube which includes an axial bearing arrangement which is particularly suitable for combination with a radial spiral groove bearing. It is a problem of known axial magnet bearings, which generally comprise two tooth-like structures which are oriented in the radial direction and are oppositely situated, consists in that substantial radial forces are generated during the starting and the stopping phase, which radial forces can cause substantial wear of notably radial spiral groove bearings. An axial bearing which involves significantly lower radial forces and hence a less loading of the radial bearings, is realized by an arrangement of at least two magnetic elements which are spaced apart in the axial direction and are connected in such a manner that they take up axial bearing forces. A further solution to this problem is achieved by means of an axial bearing in the form of a single-point ball bearing.

A magnetic actuator for a magnetic suspension system comprises a core section (101) having an annular yoke (102) and radially directed teeth (103) joining the yoke. The magnetic actuator comprises coils (104) surrounding the teeth and a mechanical structure having a first section (105) and a second section (106). The first section is attached to the yoke and conducts magnetic flux axially. The second section joins the first section and conducts the magnetic flux radially in a direction opposite to a direction of the magnetic flux in the teeth. The magnetic actuator comprises a mechanical safety bearing (107) that is between the second section and the teeth. Thus, the safety bearing is in a room surrounded by a magnetic flux circulation path. Therefore, the safety bearing does not increase an axial length of the magnetic suspension system.

The rotor magnet member (6) is secured to the inner peripheral surface or ceiling of the rotor. Either a radial or axial gap is provided between the stator coil and the rotor magnet member.

The magnetic actuator includes coils surrounding the teeth and a mechanical structure having a first section and a second section. The first section is attached to the yoke and conducts magnetic flux axially.
