395,480. Clutches. HENRIOD, C. E., Areuse, NeuchÔtel, Switzerland. April 27, 1932, No. 12077. Convention date, April 28, 1931. [Class 80 (ii).] A clutch is engaged and disengaged by the power in a rotary driving shaft 1 by advancing alternatively obstructive cams 12, 13 into engagement with rims 71, 711, Fig. 2, respectively on a disc 7, Fig. 1, rotating with the shaft 1. The disc 7 is pivoted near one edge at 9 upon a disc 3 fast on the shaft 1. The rims 7<1>, 7<11> are mutually eccentric and the effect of engaging one of these rims with one of the obstructive cams 12, 13 is to bring the engaged rim concentric with the shaft 1 so as to rock the disc 7 on its pivot 9. The centre of gravity g, Fig. 2, of the disc 7 is between the centres a, b of the rims 71, 7<11>, so that the rocking disc 7 is held by centrifugal force in each of its end positions. This rocking of the disc 7 by rocking a double cam 10, Fig. 3, engages and disengages the clutch by opening and allowing to close a pair of clutch shoes 4, 5 which are pivoted at 6 upon the disc 3. The shoes 6 are adapted to grip inside a drum 11, Fig. 1, fast on a driven shaft 2. The cams 12, 13 are fast on a control shaft 14 turnable by suitable means. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 indicates a construction of changespeed gear with multiple eccentric planetary trains not perceptiblv different from the arrangement described in Specification 384,658. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
