A planetary gear transmission has two or more planetary gear sets (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d) in the gear train. Each planetary gear set comprises a sun gear (1) mounted on a sun shaft (5) with the sun gear (1) engaging a plurality of planet gears (2) mounted on a planet carrier (4) with the plurality of planet gears (2) engaging a ring gear (3) mounted on the transmission housing (7). Each gear of the planetary gear transmission is a helical cut gear. Sun gears (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) and/or ring gears (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) are mounted for axial movement with respect to the transmission. Thrust imbalances on the sun gears (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) and/or ring gears (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) resulting from uneven loading and the helical cut result in sun gears (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) and/or ring gears (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) moving in the axial direction to eliminate the thrust imbalances and thereby resulting in equal loading or power sharing amongst the planetary gear sets (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d).

The first unit 18 may be coupled to a sun gear 2 or an internal gear (2a, fig 4) of the first gear set 3. Either the first or second drive unit 18, 10 may have variable speed.

A planetary gear system (P) includes a sun gear ( 2 ), a ring gear ( 4 ) a carrier ( 6 ) located between the sun and ring gears ( 2, 4 ), and planet pinions ( 8, 10 ) organized in two arrays and supported on flexpin assemblies ( 32, 34 ) in the carrier ( 6 ). All of the gearing is helical, with the sun and ring gears ( 2, 4 ) having their teeth arranged in at double helix angles (herringbone) and the planet gears ( 8, 10 ) at single helix angles. The pinions ( 8 ) of the one array engage the teeth of one angle on the sun and ring gears ( 2, 4 ) and the pinions ( 10 ) of the other array engage the teeth of the other angle on the sun and ring gears ( 2, 4 ). Torque transfers through the carrier ( 6 ) through two torque paths (a, b)—one to the flexpin assemblies ( 32 ) for one array and the other to the flexpin assemblies ( 34 ) of the other array—and the paths (a) is stiffer than the path (b). Owing to the helical cut of the teeth the planet pinions ( 8, 10 ) of the two arrays exert oppositely directed axial forces (A) on the sun gear ( 2 ). The sun gear ( 2 ) is free to shift axially or float with respect to the planet pinions ( 8, 10 ) of the two arrays, so the axial forces (A) imparted to the sun gear, while opposite, are equal. Hence, the tangential forces (T), which transfer the torque, are likewise equal, notwithstanding the difference in flexibility of the two torque paths (a, b). Even though the carrier ( 6 ) may undergo different deflections at the flexpin assemblies ( 32, 34 ) for the two arrays of planet pinions ( 8, 10 ), the planet pinions ( 8, 10 ) of the two arrays transfer torques of equal magnitude.

A drive train of a fluid flow power plant, in particular of a wind power plant or of a tidal power plant, includes a rotor hub that bears at least one rotor blade and a transmission that has a plurality of planetary stages. The transmission is configured to transmit a rotational movement of a rotor shaft connected to the rotor hub to a drive of a downstream generator in a stepped-up fashion. The rotor hub, the transmission, and the generator are arranged coaxially with respect to one another. The transmission is embodied as a power-split transmission with three planetary stages so as to form a suitable transmission ratio of a rotational movement of the rotor shaft on the drive of the generator in a compact fashion. 1. One of the partial gears is fixed to the input shaft or to the casing. The other partial gear is loosely connected to the input shaft or to the casing by a spiral coupling which allows the partial gear to move in spiral direction. A pressing means pushes the partial gear in the axial direction. Force of the pressing means moves the partial gear in the spiral direction. The partial gear slightly rotates relatively to the other partial gear. Relative rotation of the partial gears cancels backlashes. In the case of helical gears, the spiral coupling can be replaced by an axial coupling. The loosely coupled partial gear can rotate by a cam device comprising tapered keys and axial notches of the partial gears. Axial displacement of the gears themselves or the keys induces relative rotation which cancels transmission error and alleviates noise generation by eliminating backlashes.

A gear unit for the drive of a rotating tube is provided with a drive shaft and a power distributing gear unit stage that is configured as a spur gear unit with an intermediate shaft having mounted thereon two bevel gears. A power output combining gear unit stage with a take-off shaft is operated downstream of the gear unit step. In this connection, the take-off shaft is on the central axis of the driven rotating tube. The power output combining gear unit stage is comprised of two parallel operated planetary gear units each having a sun gear, planetary gears each disposed on a respective planetary axle, a hollow gear and a common satellite carrier that is configured as a single piece and connected with the take-off shaft. The planetary axles of both planetary gear units in the common satellite carrier are spaced from one another and offset from one another. The intermediate shaft of the spur gear unit and the planetary gear units are supported in floating manners by bearings, whereby the spur gear unit and the planetary gear units form a symmetrical coupling gear unit.
