The collector nozzle can then be replaced during temporary shut off by twisting with a typical chain wrench and a new collector nozzle inserted without disturbing the mounted relationship of the remainder of the sliding gate and the top plate interiorly of the valve. In a further embodiment the coupling of the collector nozzle is a thrust-type which does not require rotation.

A sliding plate stop valve suitable for any vessel from which molten metal is poured. The novelty is in the design of the replaceable wearing parts which require virtually no refractory mortar. The slide arrangement includes a housing disposed in the channel wall and a shroud or steel structure laterally connected to the housing. A passage for a slide plate is provided in a wall of the housing facing the shroud or steel structure. The passage can be closed off by a closure member except for a narrow gap. The closure member has a circumferential seal that rests against the rearward side of the housing wall. The closure member also has a wear plate that when the closure member is closed is flush with the inner side of the housing wall and forms a smooth passageway.

The risk of a leak into the atmosphere and/or in the passage during a fire or during extinguishing efforts is thus substantially reduced.
