Multi-layer sheet providing acoustic and thermal insulation comprises a cellular layer 2 adhered to a facing layer 1 and a repositionable, pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) faced layer 5. Prior to use, this PSA is in contact with a peelable, protective, release paper or film 6. The cellular layer 2 is a solid closed cell foam comprising gas filled cells 3 of deformable thermoplastic. The facing layer 1 is preferably a metallic, especially 50-200 µm thick aluminium, foil adhered to the polyethylene foam 2 via a PSA layer 4. Additional, adhesive layers 4 of viscoelastic, especially butyl rubber, are used. The preferred foam 2 is 2-10 (3-5) mm thick and contains fire retardant and air filled cells 3 with polydisperse size distribution and longest dimension of 0.1-5 (0.5-3) mm. The insulating method and kit are claimed. The insulation is used on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning pipes and ducting.

A sound-absorbing member 5 for lining or positioning in a duct 2 comprises a plurality of rigid supporting members 6 having at least one of their ends covered by a thin non-selfsupporting relatively flexible porous sheet S with a resistive impedance, the spacing between the supporting members being large compared with the pores of the sheet S but small compared with the width of the free space in the duct P, the spacing being sufficiently small to provide support for the sheet S in order to prevent its sagging and flexing. As shown in Fig. 1, the U-shaped sound-absorbing member 5 comprises a honeycomb structure 6 secured at one end 13 to the inner surfaces 1, 3 of the duct 2. The cellular members 6 which may be of metal or paperboard have their free ends covered by the sheet S consisting of a synthetic plastic sheet 7, perforated at 9, laminated with inner and outer flexible porous materials 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, such as "tea-bag" paper or porous cellulose film. The sheet member 11- 7-11<SP>1</SP> may be interrupted at the crests C of the member 5 and the members 6 may be omitted in this exposed region, baffles then bounding this region. The plastic sheet 7 may be used without the sheets 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and the cellular structure may be filled with sound absorbent material. Сущность изобретения: глушитель шума, предназначенный для снижения шумов при выходе сжатого воздуха из аппаратов пневматической системы, в частности аппаратов пневматической системы автомобилей, с впускным отверстием и, по меньшей мере, с одним выпускным отверстием, а также с расположенным между этими отверстиями чашеобразным корпусом, имеющим боковую поверхность чаши и днище чаши, причем во внутреннем пространстве чашеобразного корпуса установлен предназначенный для изоляции шумов звукопоглощающий материал в виде патрона фильтрующего трикотажного полотна, причем между патроном (7) и боковой поверхностью (2) чаши расположен слой из волокнистого материала (8), а преобладающая часть волокон волокнистого материала (8) расположена с наклоном к боковой поверхности (2) чаши.
