Способ регулирования давления (p) в объеме (6) подземного хранилища заключается в том, что объем (6) подземного хранилища, по меньшей мере частично, заполняют несжимаемой текучей средой (7), выполняют мониторинг давления в объеме (6) подземного хранилища, в котором сжимаемую текучую среду (8) можно вводить в объем (6) подземного хранилища и извлекать из него. Если давление (p) в объеме (6) подземного хранилища достигает заданного верхнего предела (p max ) давления, несжимаемую текучую среду (7) извлекают из объема (6) подземного хранилища для снижения давления (p) в объеме (6) подземного хранилища. Если давление (p) в объеме подземного хранилища достигает заданного нижнего предела (p min ) давления, несжимаемую текучую среду (7) вводят в объем (6) подземного хранилища для повышения давления (p) в объеме (6) подземного хранилища. A gas bottle or other such pressurised gas container is fitted with an openable sealing valve which in a closed condition prevents escape of gas from the bottle. The valve comprises a body 14 forming a convergent outlet passage 18 and a movable valve member 22 which in the closed condition is urged against the body to seal the passage. The valve member presents a continuous sealing edge 32 which is formed by a material (e.g. acetal resin) which is hard but sufficiently compressible to be spread slightly by compression against the body to form a seating but is insufficiently soft for it to be extruded away from the edge in repeated operation of the valve. The valve member is allowed some latitude for movement laterally of the passage, permitting self-centring of the member.

A second regulator valve is in fluid communication with the third pipe and opens when a pressure inside the tank drops below a second predetermined pressure level. Methods for loading a compressed fluid, such as natural gas, into and discharging the compressed fluid out of containment are provided. The compressed fluid is injected into a bottom portion of a container system for storage and/or transport until a target pressure is reached after which gas is withdrawn from an upper portion of the container system at a rate to maintain the target pressure while the compressed fluid is injected in the bottom portion. The compressed fluid is cooled through an expansion valve and by refrigerated chillers or by injecting a cold liquid of the same chemical composition as the compressed fluid, such as liquid natural gas, into the compressed fluid prior to injection into the container system. Withdrawal or discharge from the container system to a receiving facility begins with blow down from the bottom portion of the container system without a displacement fluid and continues until pressure falls below an acceptable differential pressure. The discharge stream is passed through a separator and a light gas from the separator is pressurized and injected into an upper portion of the container system to drive the compressed fluid out the bottom. The light gas is pressurized using either a compressor or a heated tank system, where two vessels operate in parallel, trapping and heating the light gas and then discharging to the container system from one while filling the other and alternating the operation between the two.

A high pressure gas tank safety and service valve which comprises a body portion that sealingly engages a threaded opening of a high pressure gas tank. The valve has a flow passage that communicates the interior of the gas tank to an outlet port of the safety and service valve; the flow passage including first and second axially spaced valve seats which are, respectfully, engageable by first and second valve members interconnected by a safety rod. The first valve member is operable to open and close communications between the interior of the high pressure gas tank and the outlet port of the valve to permit selected exhausting of the gas tank. The second valve member is normally bias toward engagement with the second valve seat and in the event of a fracture resulting in the escape of gas, the second valve member will automatically close communications from the tanks. A third valve seat disposed between the interior of the tank and the second valve member is engagable by a third valve operable to close communication with the interior of the tank when the pressure therein drops to a predetermined minimum valve. The third valve member carries a valve element which facilitates repressurization of the tank while the third valve member is engaged with its associated valve seat.
