A head assembly for a pulverized coal nozzle includes removeable wear-resistant inserts having vanes. The vanes may be flat or curved to direct a stream of air and pulverized solid fuel particles from the inlet port toward the outlet port. The curved vanes curve in two dimensions to evenly distribute the stream of air and pulverized solid fuel away from the outer surfaces reducing wear and corrosion. The pipe elbow has a removable cover that allows for easy access. The vanes are attached to a wear-resistant replaceable liner thus allowing them to be easily removed and replaced. The wear-resistant liner may be made from several parts for ease of removal and replacement.

The deflector ring of claim 1 , wherein:the number of straightening vanes is equal to the number of coal outlet pipes in the pulverizer.3. The invention relates to a combustion apparatus, in particular to a burner for the combustion of carbonaceous fuel. The combustion apparatus comprises a burner having a burner inlet for receiving a supply of combustible pulverous fuel (1) and a supply of comburant gas (2) and a burner outlet (30) in the vicinity of which combustion of the fuel is supported during use; at least a primary conduit defining a flow channel for conveying a mixture of fuel and comburant gas from the burner inlet to the burner outlet; a fuel feed line defining a flow channel which conveys a pulverous combustible fuel in a dense phase; and a supply conduit fluidly connecting a comburant gas supply to the primary conduit and defining with the primary conduit a primary flow stream; wherein the fuel feed line is provided with a fuel feed outlet into the supply conduit upstream of the burner inlet to supply pulverous combustible fuel in a dense phase; and wherein the primary flow stream is provided with a mixing device (21) downstream of the fluid supply outlet. A method for combusting pulverous combustible fuel in a burner embodying such principles is also described.

A burner assembly combines oxygen and fuel to produce a flame. The burner assembly includes an oxygen supply tube adapted to receive a stream of oxygen and a fuel supply tube arranged to extend through the oxygen tube to convey a stream of fluidized, pulverized, solid fuel into a flame chamber. Oxygen flowing through the oxygen supply tube passes through oxygen-injection holes formed in the fuel supply tube and then mixes with fluidized, pulverized, solid fuel passing through the fuel supply tube to create an oxygen-fuel mixture in a downstream portion of the fuel supply tube. This mixture is discharged into the flame chamber and ignited in a flame chamber to produce a flame.

[Class 51 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIX, XXX and XXVI] Apparatus for automatically controlling the fuel supply and ash removal in the firebox of a house heating furnace or boiler comprises a conveyer 10 with an oscillating plate 58 forming the base of a fuel hopper, a stoker feed tube 12 with a feed plate 70 carrying a pusher 76 underfiring the grate 14 which has an oscillating ash crushing ring 16, and horizontally mounted oscillating side plates 20 for the removal of ash, all the oscillating parts being reciprocated from a hydraulic cylinder 116 under control of a pump 40 driven by a motor 38 which is switched on or off by the movement of a control member 28 resting on the fuel bed. Ash from the conveyer plates 20 falling on the pivoted quadrant 172, Fig. 5. passes from the cut out section 204 to a conveyer 22 which delivers it to a removable receiver, Fig. 3 (not shown). The ash crushing ring 16 forms the base of the grate 14 and has teeth 82 on its upper surface. It is actuated by a yoke 90 supported on a compound lever 94 driven through the bar 166 which is attached to the conveyer plate 70 from a lever 170 secured to the pivoted quadrant 172, an adjustable slot and pin connection 196 with said bar 166 being provided to vary the stroke of the ring 16. A scraper 18 attached to a lower arm 104 of the compound lever 94 moves ash which falls from the back of the grate onto the conveyer plates 20. A damper 50 and draught doors 52 operated by a motor 44 under the influence of a thermostat 42 disposed in the heated space control the combustion.
