Building ventilation unit consists of a housing which is built into or on wall or roof opening and has an air channel bounded on opposite sides by flat walls. The channel (4) is also confined longitudinally by flat walls (5), from which alternately crosswalls (6, 7) project at right angles into the air channel itself. Thus any two crosswalls together cover the cross section of the channel and so diver the air flow in this. Pref. the unit should have several adjoining parallel channels, in which one longitudinal wall (5) carries two outer crosswalls at the end so as to form an U section, with a single intermediate cross wall (7) halfway up on the opposing wall of the channel. Pref. the free rims of the crosswalls should form a slit (10, 11) in conjunction with the opposing longitudinal walls (5, 5') the slit maximally half the channel width across.

A roof-mounted ventilator comprising a plurality of blades is disclosed. Each blade comprises front and back blade faces and leading and trailing edges. When the ventilator is viewed in side profile, the blades are positioned and configured such that a line of sight into the interior of the ventilator is substantially restricted or obstructed. Restricting or obstructing the line of sight into the ventilator can reduce or prevent various particles, such as water droplets, debris, dust and light, from entering the ventilator interior. For example, rain is thereby forced to strike a face of the blades, thus preventing direct access into the ventilator interior. The blade itself may include additional features, such as a lip that extends along the length of the leading edge, to further prevent particles from entering the ventilator interior, or to redirect the particles away from the ventilator interior in a controlled manner.

PASSIVE ROOF EXHAUSTING SYSTEM A system for passively exhausting air from a structure includes at least one pair of modules arranged on a roof of the structure. Each module has an exhaust face on one side and a sloped surface on the opposite side, and can receive exhaust air that flows upward from inside the structure. The modules can be arranged in pairs facing one another, with one of the sloped surfaces facing a direction of an environmental flow of air, so that the environmental air can flow up the sloped surface of one module and down the sloped surface of the other module without impinging on the exhaust faces of either module. The pairs can also be arranged side by-side in an array, which can be expanded with additional pairs of modules to exhaust from the structure at a greater rate.

A liquid desiccant air-conditioning system for treating an air stream entering a building space , comprising:a compressor-based cooling system through which a refrigerant flows;a liquid desiccant conditioner utilizing a liquid desiccant and a heat transfer fluid to cool, heat, humidify, or dehumidify a first air stream flowing therethrough depending on a mode of operation of the liquid desiccant air conditioning system, wherein the heat transfer fluid used in the conditioner contains substantially no antifreeze additive;a liquid desiccant regenerator receiving the liquid desiccant used in the liquid desiccant conditioner, and utilizing a heat transfer fluid and a second air stream flowing therethrough to concentrate or dilute the liquid desiccant depending on the mode of operation of the liquid desiccant air conditioning system, and then returning the liquid desiccant to the conditioner, wherein the heat transfer fluid and the liquid desiccant cool, heat, humidify, or dehumidify the second air stream depending on the mode of operation of the liquid desiccant air conditioning system, wherein the heat transfer fluid used in the regenerator contains substantially no antifreeze additive;a first heat exchanger thermally coupled to the heat transfer fluid used in the liquid desiccant conditioner and to the refrigerant flowing through the compressor-based cooling system for exchanging heat between the refrigerant and the heat transfer fluid;a second heat exchanger thermally coupled to the heat transfer fluid used in the liquid desiccant regenerator and to the refrigerant flowing through another portion of the compressor-based cooling system for exchanging heat between the refrigerant and the heat transfer fluid;a first enclosure containing the liquid desiccant ...
