Control method of hot water temperature in hot water supply system at low water flow rate

The control server may select water heaters according to use patterns and/or measured capacity. One embodiment is adapted for use with existing water heaters without disrupting safety features of the existing water heater.

A fluid heating apparatus has a fluid flow path from an inlet to an outlet, with multiple heating sections positioned along the flow path. Each heating section is at least one pair of electrodes between which an electric current is passed through the fluid to resistively heat the fluid during its passage along the flow path. At least one of the heating sections has a segmented electrode made up of a plurality of electrically separable segments. This allows an effective active area of the segmented electrode to be controlled by selectively activating the segments. A controller determines a required voltage and current to be delivered to the fluid by each heating section, and allows for input conductivity as well as variations in fluid conductivity with temperature. The controller activates selected segments of the segmented electrode to effect delivery of desired current and voltage by the segmented electrode to the fluid.

An instantaneous demand gas fired hot water heater apparatus having the water temperature sensing thermostat disposed in the upper hot water outlet header with the inlet flow of unheated water directed to flow in a preferred flow path across the temperature sensing element. The temperature sensing element location in the upper header of the heater provides an extremely sensitive and efficient burner control. Upon initial output demand of hot water the lower temperature of the unheated water is immediately sensed by the temperature sensing element to immediately commence burner operation. Upon termination of heater water demand, the heated water temperature is rapidly sensed by the temperature sensing element to promptly terminate the supply of the gas to the burner and minimize unnecessary heating of the water.

[Class 38 (iv)] Temperature.-An electric water-heater is provided with a thermostat f in an overflow pipe, the arrangement being that when steam is generated in the heater this escapes through the pipe and actuates the thermostat to cut off the heating current, the thermostat switching on the current when its temperature falls owing to cold water entering the heater or through heat dissipation when the flow of steam has ceased. A second thermostat n may be associated with the cold water supply pipe b and the switches of these thermostats are connected in parallel in the heater circuit. A steam space is left in the heater so that when condensation takes place as the temperature falls a cooling draught of air is drawn over the thermostat. The condensation may be facilitated by spraying the cold feed water into the steam space. In the case of the type of heater in which hot water is discharged through an overflow pipe by the entry of the cold feed, the overflow pipe d containing the thermostat is placed above the overflow pipe c for hot water and thus no water reaches the thermostat. A V-shaped trap may be provided in the pipe c to prevent steam escaping therethrough. The cold feed water may be led through a jacket j surrounding the thermostat pipe.
