The cooler has an inlet region for receiving the hot clinker, a recuperation region, a final cooling region having a clinker cooling device, an opening for blowing cooling air into the recuperation region, a tertiary air line for conducting away heated cooling air, an outlet region for discharging cooled clinker, and at least one conveyor to transport the clinker through the cooler. With this type of device, the invention provides that several feeders are arranged, preferably with reciprocally rotatable drums with rows of holes, spaced from one another and in succession in direction of belt motion of the cooling belt, whereby each feeder is allotted one removing device. As a result, in particular products with short cooling times can be simultaneously fed onto a single cooling belt by way of several feeders, so that a considerably increased output is obtained in comparison to known devices of this type which only provide one feeder per cooling belt. Nevertheless, with the new device, meltings which require long cooling times can also be solidified since, in this case, the removing devices, which could, for example, be wipers, are removed or turned up so that the entire belt length can, in this case, continue to be used as a cooling zone.

A cooler for cooling particulate material which has been heat-treated in an industrial kiln, such as a rotary kiln (3) for manufacturing cement clinker; the cooler comprising an inlet (5), an outlet (7), end walls, side walls, a bottom and a ceiling; at least one stationary supporting surface (11) for receiving and supporting the material which is to be cooled; means (13,15) for injecting cooling gas into the material at a plurality of positions along the supporting surface; and at least one separate mechanical conveying device (41) for conveying the material along the supporting surface, characterised in that the conveying device is a reciprocating scraping system which comprises a number of scraping elements (43) extending transversely to the direction of movement of the material, which elements are moved to and fro in the direction of movement of the material.

An apparatus adapted for cooling warm pellets and like granular product comprises: i) a bin having a product inlet at its upper and a product discharge at its lower end, ii) a grate system on which pellet product is temporarily retained to effect cooling thereof, iii) a fan for developing an upward flow of air through the grate system to cool pellet product retained on the grate system, iv) a support for mounting the grate system in the bin, the grate system traversing the bin to ensure thereby that all pellet product passes through the grate system, through the grate system, v) the grate system comprising first and second grates with the first grate overlying the second grate, vi) the support being adapted to permit reciprocal lateral movement between the first grate relative to the second grate, vii) the first grate having a plurality of parallel generally spaced apart members, each member extending across said bin, viii) the second grate having a plurality of parallel equally spaced apart beams, each beam extending parallel to the members and extending across the bin, ix) a drive for reciprocating the members relative to the beams, the drive moving the members and beams between a first relative position in which pellet product is retained on the grate system and a second relative position in which pellet product flows through the grate system towards the product discharge, x) the first grate members having a cross-sectional configuration to permit continuous flow of air through the grate system at all times for all relative positions including and between said first and second positions, xi) each of the members having an air flow deflector for dividing a flow of air entering the first grate as such flow of air passes upwardly between the beams of the second grate, into primary and secondary air flows for each first grate member, xii) each of the first grate members having a primary air outlet and a secondary air outlet, each of the primary and secondary air ...

The invention relates to a method and an installation for hot rolling steel strip (S), wherein the installation has a hot rolling line (2) which comprises a plurality of rolling stands (F1-F7) that are passed through successively in the conveying direction (F) of the steel strip (S) to be hot rolled, and has a cooling section (5) for intensively cooling the hot rolled steel strip (S) exiting the final rolling stand (F7) of the rolling line (2). By way of the invention, it is possible, on the basis of such a conventional hot rolling installation, to produce hot strips with a final thickness of more than 15 mm in an operationally reliable manner, said hot strips also complying with most stringent requirements in terms of their toughness. This is achieved according to the invention in that the start of the cooling section (5) is shifted to before the end of the hot rolling line (2) as seen in the conveying direction (F) of the steel strip (S) to be hot rolled, and in that the cooling section (5) starts after the final rolling stand (F5) that is passed through before entry into the cooling section (5), hot Lolling of the respective steel strip (S) to be hot rolled taking place in said rolling stand (F5).
