The first and the second ducts (all along their length) are separated from each other with at least one wall that acts as a separation wall. The discharge pipeline and the delivery pipeline are positioned at the same end of the tubes. The tubes may be in pairs, as in Fig. 3. Each pair in a plane at right angles to the axes of the headers 3. The tubes of a single row may each be at right angles to the headers or each set obliquely thereto but parallel to one another. In Fig. 5 the row is arranged in two groups in which the tubes 'are set obliquely to the headers but the angle of set of one group is supplementary to that of the other group.

The heating elements such as radiators are made from a number of flat tubes and their ends are covered with angular closing profiles. The flat stacked tubes are welded at their end edges. Hence connecting vertical openings are formed and the angle profile is welded along the outer edge to the flat tubes. An enclosed heating element is formed and the end profile produces a continuous vertical channel which connects the individual flat tubes. This heating element can be readily produced by welding.

The heating radiator has flat parallel tubes (1) in a common plane which are connected at points clear of their closed ends to manifolds (2) at the back. Gaps (3) are left between the narrow sides of adjacent tubes. At the manifolds each gap is watertight sealed by bridge-pieces (4) welded to the adjacent tubes. The manifolds are sealed to the tubes and bridge-pieces by a peripheral weld seam (7). ADVANTAGE - No need for individual unions between manifolds and tubes.

Heating radiator production method - presses flat tubes inwards at curved edges for pressure-welding to manifolds

The method produces a heating radiator with flat parallel tubes spaced apart and connected at the ends to feed and return manifolds. These are pressure-welded together at connecting openings. Each flat tube(3) is pressed inwards at its curved edge(5) for connection to the manifold(1) so as to form a recess(6), widening it(7) in the transverse direction in the process, and forming a curved portion with a greater radius(r). The manifold is pressed against this portion, without contact with the sloping flanks(9) of the recess, at the start of the welding operation. ADVANTAGE - Lower cost, there being no formation of splash metal to clean off.

The heating tube consists of a number of flat sections (1), connected at their ends by welding to vertical manifold tubes (2). There are apertures (4,5) in the joints linking the interior of one tube to another. The flat sections are made with rounded portions (1a,1b) at the top and bottom, with the welded joints made between the manifold tubes and the rounded portions. On one side of the heating wall the rounded portions on the flat sections can form a recess used to contain fixing brackets, while an assembly with two sets of flat tubes and manifolds can have heat-radiating ribs between them.
