Continuous wave sound, such as ultrasound, emitted by a transmitter may reflect from an object, and be received by one or more sound receivers. Sound signals may be temporally encoded. Received sound signals may be processed to determine a channel impulse response or calculate time of flight. Determined channel impulse responses may be processed to extract recognizable features or angles. Extracted features may be compared to a database of features to identify a user input gesture associated with the matched feature. Angles of channel impulse response curves may be associated with an input gesture. Time of flight values from each receiver may be used to determine coordinates of the reflecting object. Embodiments may be implemented as part of a graphical user interface. Embodiments may be used to determine a location of an emitter.

An irregular ultrasound sampling grid is reconstructed to a three-dimensional grid for imaging. Volume data acquired with a helix transducer includes a fractional offset of data spaced along one dimension, resulting in the irregular ultrasound sampling grid. To determine a voxel value for a grid point on a uniform grid, two adjacent planes are identified. The sample locations in the two planes are not aligned, being on the irregular ultrasound sampling grid. Hardware acceleration devices, such as a graphics processing unit, perform bilinear interpolation in each of the planes. The data of each plane is interpolated to the proper global azimuth-range coordinate corresponding with the grid point. The bilinearly interpolated values from each plane are then linearly interpolated to the grid point.

An audio array circuit ( 103 ) generates a directional response for the audio band array ( 101 ) by applying weights to individual audio band signals for the audio band elements. A weight circuit ( 109 ) determines the weights in response to the presence characteristic. The system may provide improved adaptation of the directivity of the audio band array ( 101 ) and specifically does not require the sound source in the audio band to be active for adaptation.

Based on these parameters, the logic computes the path length between the sensor and the device, which corresponds to the location of the device relative to the location of the sensor. The detected signals are processed to measure phase shift between the sent and received acoustic signals, the measured phase shift varying over time. The varying phase shift is used to indicate fluctuations over time in the local height of the liquid surface in the target area. The liquid may be water, effluent etc. flowing in a channel or conduit. With suitable calibration, the measured height fluctuations can be used to infer flow characteristics such as surface roughness, wave height, flow depth, flow velocity, volumetric flow rate, shear stress, sediment transport. Using an array of receivers and target areas, additional spatial and temporal characteristics of the surface and the flow can be measured.
