The control device detects information on a humidity on the basis of a current detected by the current detecting device when the area is electrically charged again by applying the DC voltage to the contact charging device.

A reference value of an electric current flowing through each charging member is determined and recorded in a memory unit at a predetermined time by a reference value recording unit. A voltage application unit is caused to start applying a voltage to the charging members upon startup of an image forming apparatus, and a measurement value of an electric current flowing through each charging member is determined by a measurement unit. A charging member of which the measurement value is such that an absolute value of a difference between the reference value and the measurement value is not smaller than a predetermined value is marked by a determination unit. If there is at least one marked charging member and at least one not-marked charging member, a notification produced by a messaging unit is given through a notification unit.

Inferring toner contamination of electrodes from printing parameters

A computer implemented method of cleaning electrodes (such as wires) is used in a toner-based electrostatic printing device. The electrodes produce an environment containing charged toner particles to assist in electrostatic printing. The method automatically monitors at least two printing parameters that are unrelated to signals and voltages provided to the electrodes (using a processor of the electrostatic printing device). Further, this method also uses the processor automatically infers a toner contamination of the electrodes from the printing parameters. This allows the processor to automatically adjust the printing the used by the electrostatic printing device during electrostatic printing to maintain the contamination of the electrodes below a threshold.

An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a charge roller, a cleaning brush and a distance changing mechanism. The charge roller includes a surface having protrusions and depressions and to electrically charge the image carrier. A development roller for an electrophotographic device that can both reduce resistance and suppress bleeding-out of an ion-conducting agent is provided. A development roller for an electrophotographic device is provided with a shaft body , an elastic body layer formed on the outer periphery of the shaft body , and a surface layer formed on the outer periphery of the elastic body layer . The surface layer includes the following constituents (a) to (c), and the content of constituent (b) is 3.0 to 60 parts by mass, relative to 100 parts by mass of constituent (a). Constituent (a) is a binder comprising acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, where the content of acrylonitrile is 31 mass % or more and 36 mass % or less. Constituent (b) is an ion-conducting agent. Constituent (c) is an acrylic polymer comprising at least one selected from among a silicone group and a fluorine group. 1a shaft body, an elastic body layer formed on an outer periphery of the shaft body, and a surface layer formed on the outer periphery of the elastic body layer,wherein the surface layer contains following (a) to (c),(a) a binder made of an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber having an acrylonitrile amount of 32 mass % or more and 35 mass % or less, and the (a) is a crosslinked body;(b) an ion-conducting agent; and(c) an acrylic polymer having both a silicone group and a fluorine-containing group, anda content of the (b) is 3.0 parts by mass or more and 40 parts by mass or less with respect to 100 parts by mass of (a),the (c) is an acrylic block copolymer composed of a polymer segment having at least one selected from among a silicone group and a fluorine-containing group and a polymer segment having no silicone group and fluorine-containing group..
