A copy delivery time interval between a front end of a first copy and a front end of a second copy is measured and stored with an addition of a tolerance time in a memory. Such a measurement is repeated for the succeeding copies. During the measurement if the time interval exceeds a predetermined basic time longer than the time interval, the sorting apparatus recognizes that the original document was substituted by new one. Then the storing way in the sorting apparatus is changed to receive copies of the new original document.

A lower unit and an upper unit are installed between a stacked paper sheet and the succeeding paper sheet. A pressing plate of the upper unit and the support plate of the lower unit move, so the support plate of the lower unit is rotated together with the pressing plate to prevent the succeeding paper sheet from being damaged. The associated movements of the lower unit and the upper unit are released at a position where the pressing plate of the upper unit is moved, and the lower unit primarily returns to its initial state and the upper unit returns to its initial state subsequently.

An image forming apparatus, including: a fixing unit configured to fix a toner image to a sheet; a sheet moving motor configured to move the sheet in a width direction orthogonal to a conveyance direction of the sheet; and a controller configured to determine a movement amount of the sheet to be moved by the sheet moving motor for each sheet, wherein the controller sets a first movement amount for a first sheet when an image is formed on a first side of the first sheet, the controller sets a second movement amount for a second sheet when an image is formed on a first side of the second sheet, and controls the sheet moving motor such that the first sheet is moved in the width direction by the first movement amount when an image is formed on a second side of the first sheet. 1. An image forming system according to claim 1 , wherein the correction portion is inhibited from correcting the image data on the toner images to be formed on a front surface and a back surface of the plurality of sheets that do not include the region to be subjected to the binding processing by the binding portion.3. A sheet sorter includes an array of a plurality of sorting trays which are mounted on a sorter body and arranged in a vertical direction and a general-purpose tray which is mounted on the sorter body and is larger than each of the sorting trays in capacity so that it accommodates a larger number of sheets than each of the sorting trays. A tray drive mechanism provided in the sorter body moves up and down the sorting trays and the general-purpose tray so that sheets transferred by a transfer mechanism provided in the sorter body are selectively discharged onto the sorting trays or the general-purpose tray. The array of the sorting trays is positioned above the general-purpose tray. The sorting tray array and the general-purpose tray are normally held in a position where the sheet discharge port of the sheet transfer mechanism is positioned between the lowermost tray of the sorting tray array and the general-purpose tray as seen in a vertical direction.
