Furthermore, it contains a bisamine compound, an N,N′-bisenamine compound, a styryl compound, an amine-hydrazone compound, a benzofuran-bishydrazone compound, a bisenamine compound, a benzofuran-bishydrazone compound or a benzofuran-bis-cyclic hydrazone compound represented by the particular structural formulae as a charge transporting substance.

A layered electrophotographic photoconductor is disclosed having a ground plane layer, a charge generating layer carried by the ground plane layer, and a charge transport layer carried by the charge generating layer. The polymeric binder material of the charge transport layer and the charge generation layer comprises an ordered copolyestercarbonate whose ester content is in the range of about 35 wt. % to about 70 wt. %, of which about 60 wt. % to about 70 wt. % is preferred, and of which about 70 wt. % is the most preferred. The charge generating molecule is a squarylium, and more specifically 2,4-bis-(4-dimethylamino-2-hydroxyphenyl) cyclobutene diylium-1,3-diolate (OHSQ), or an operative phthalocyanine compound, and preferably oxytitanium phthalocyanine. The charge transporting molecule is a hydrazone, and more specifically 4-diethylaminobenzaldehyde-1,1-diphenylhydrazone (DEH), or 4-diphenylaminobenzaldehyde-1,1-diphenylhydrazone (TPH).

Organic photoreceptors of the functionally separated laminated type containing a hydrazone compound in the charge transport layer thereof which provides low crystallinity and improved sensitivity, durability, and reproducibility. The hydrazone compound disclosed in the present invention is presented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R 1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl or alkoxy group; n is an integer of either 1 or 2; R 3 and R 4 each independently represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group; or alternatively R 3 and R 4 form a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic heterocyclic ring residue cojointly with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded.

Photoconductors comprise a substrate, a charge transport layer, and a charge generation layer. The charge transport layer comprises binder and a charge transport compound comprising at least one of a hydrazone, aromatic amine, or substituted aromatic amine, and the charge generation layer comprises binder, a phthalocyanine charge generating compound and a hindered hydroxylated aromatic compound. The hindered hydroxylated aromatic compound reduces electrical fatigue upon cycling without adversely effecting the electrical performance of the photoconductors.

A coating composition for electrophotographic plates comprises a natural or synthetic resin and a photoconductive hydrazone of the formula R1R2C=N.NR3R4, in which the R symbols represent H, alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, acyl, aryl or heterocyclic aromatic groups, of which R1 and R2 may be joined to form a ring. A sensitizing dyestuff or chlorophyll may be present, and in one example sulphosalicylic acid is added. Specified solvents are water, ethanol, glycol monomethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene, depending on the nature of the resin of which many types are listed. The support may be metal, (e.g. aluminium), glass or a resin.ALSO:The Specification describes photoconductive resinous compositions as in Specification 853,880 but with the photoconductor there specified replaced by a hydrazone of the formula R1R2C=N.NR3R4, in which the R symbols represent H, alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, acyl, aryl or heterocyclic aromatic groups, of which R1 and R2 may be joined to form a ring. Particularly suitable are those in which R3 is acyl and R4 is H, especially the benzoyl, substituted benzoyl and pyridoyl hydrazones of aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes. Many suitable compounds of the above formula are mentioned, alone or in admixture with one another. The sensitizing dyestuffs mentioned in Specification 853,880 may also be present, and in example sulphosalicylic acid is added.ALSO:Acyl - hydrazones of the formula R1R2C=N-NH-CO-R are prepared by heating carboxylic acid hydrazides with aldehydes, ketones or quinones in an organic solvent, e.g. ethanol; R is H, alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or a heterocyclic aromatic radical (or may be an alkylene group, giving a bis-compound), R1 is H, alkyl, or aryl, and R2 is aralkyl, aryl or a heterocyclic aromatic radical; R1 and R2 may be joined to form a ring. Letztere enthält gemäss der Erfindung als Ladungen transportierende Verbindung ein Hydrazon der allgemeinem Formel <IMAGE> in der die Reste <IMAGE> R2 = -OC2H3; -CH3; -C2H5; -H R3 = -H; -OC2H5 R4 = -H; -CH3; -C2H5 R5 = -H; -CH3 R6 = -C4H5; -CH2-C6H5; -CH3; n-C4H9 R7 = -C6H5; -CH3 <IMAGE> bedeuten, und ein polymeres Bindemittel. Eine bevorzugte, Ladungen transportierende Verbindung ist ρ-Diäthylaminobenzaldehyd- (diphenythydrazon). Als Bindemittel wird ein Polycarbonat-, Polyester-oder Acrylherz, oder Mischungen dereiben verwendet. Die Ladungsträgertransportschicht (14), die eine Dicke von mindestens 5 um aufweist, kann, je nach dem Vorzeichen der Aufladung der Landungsträger erzeugenden Schicht, auf der Landungsträger erzeugenden Schicht (12) oder zwischen derselben und dem leitenden Schichtträger angeordnet sein. Die Erfindung bezieht sich auch auf die Verwendung des mehrlagigen Aufzeichnungsmaterials in einem elektrophotographischen Kopierverfahren. The invention relates to an electrophotographic recording material (10) and its use in a copying process. The recording material (10) consists of an electrically conductive layer support, a charge generation layer (12) and a charge transport layer (14).
