A photoreceptor for electrophotography, a method for manufacturing the photoreceptor, and an electrophotographic device including the photoreceptor are disclosed. The photoreceptor for electrophotography includes a conductive substrate; and a photosensitive layer that is provided on the conductive substrate and that has an outermost surface layer containing at least a resin binder and an electron transport material. The resin binder is composed of a polyarylate resin having a structural unit represented by a Chemical Structural Formula 1, and the electron transport material is composed of a compound having a structure represented by a Structural Formula (ET2-3). The photoreceptor has high sensitivity, low residual electric potential, no light fatigue and sufficient stain resistance. 3. A chlorine-containing product is obtained by reacting N-(b -hydroxypropyl)-carbazole with thionyl chloride.ALSO:A polymeric photoconductive composition contains a polymeric reaction product as below, with or without the various additives mentioned in Specification 964,875, i.e. sensitisers, plasticizers, pigments, and agents controlling viscosity, free flow, ageing, oxidation, thermal stability and gloss; the polymeric products are those made by reacting (a) a polymer with a halogen-containing aromatic or heterocyclic compound, (b) a halogen-containing polymer with an aromatic or heterocyclic compound, or (c) a polymer and an aromatic or heterocyclic compound with a di- or poly-halogen compound. Details are given of the reactions of (a) polystyrene with N-(b -chloropropyl)-carbazole, and (b) polyvinyl chloride with fluorene, naphthalene and toluene. Other specified reactants are: chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylbenzyl bromide, polyisophenylbenzyl bromide and a copolymer of vinyl chloride and styrene; anthracene, carbazole, phenthiazine, phenoxathiine, acridine, lophine and derivatives thereof. The di-halogen compound for method (c) may be a methylene halide, ethylene dibromide or chloroacetyl chloride. A Friedel-Crafts catalyst is used for each reaction. Suitable solvents for casting the products on to a support are methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, dimethylformamide, acetone, benzene, tetrahydrofuran and mixtures thereof. Other synthetic resins may be present in the compositions, e.g. polyvinylcarbazole and a terpolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and maleic anhydride. Charge transporting substance (I) used in an electrostatographic recording material, having a conductive substrate with a coating based on (I) and a high mol. binder (II), is a 2,5-diaryl-2-styryl-pyrazoline cpd. of formula: (in which R1-3 are opt. substd. aryl gps.). Pref. R1-3 are phenyl, opt. with an amino, di(ar)alkylamino, diarylamino, alkylarylamino, morpholino, piperazino, piperidino or alkoxy gp. in the 4-posn. The material also contains a charge-producing substance (III) in the same or an adjacent layer, (III) pref. being an inorganic photoconductor or an organic dyestuff or pigment. (II) is a (meth)acrylic, polycarbonate, polyester, PVC, vinylidiene chloride-acrylonitrile copolymer, PVDC and/or phenol-HCHO resin. (II) is used in an amt. of 0.8-4 (wt.) pts./pt. (I). The (I) layer is 5-30 mu m thick and the (III) layer 0.05-5 (0.1-3) mu m thick. The material does not suffer fatigue and has high speed and low residual potential when used repeatedly. The (I) layer has high homogeneity and film strength and excellent stability.

This invention is generally directed to an organic layered photoresponsive device containing a charge transport layer comprised of a composition of the following: ##STR1## dispersed in a highly insulating and transparent organic resinous material, wherein x is selected from the group consisting of ortho (CH 3 ), meta (CH 3 ), para (CH 3 ), ortho (Cl), meta (Cl), and para (Cl), and dispersed in said transport layer from about 0.1 weight percent to about 10 weight percent of an additive composition selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein R and R 1 are independently selected from the group consisting of ethylene groups containing from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms such as methylene, ethylene, propylene, butylene and the like, and n is 0 or 1; ##STR3## wherein R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from alkyl groups containing from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, and R 4 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups containing from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, CH 2 OH, (CH 3 ) 2 OH, and ##STR4## wherein R 2 is an alkyl group; ##STR5## wherein R 6 and R 7 are alkyl groups; and ##STR6## wherein R 8 , R 9 , R 10 , and R 11 are alkyl groups.
