In a taximeter with a time and distance drive shaft 1 (Fig. 1, not shown) operated over stepless one-way clutches 17, 17<1> the time drive is provided by the armature 32 of an electromagnet 33 driven at constant frequency. The armature 32 is spring loaded 30 against a screw 34 whose position may be varied to limit movement of the armature. The armature 32 is mounted by way of a plate 28 on a clutch 26 which rotates in one direction only within a case 17<1> whose opposite direction of movement is prevented by a spring brake 43. The case 17<1> is connected to the shaft 1 by a pin 21 mounted in a slot 22 of a size such that the pin is at the right of the slot when the vehicle is stationary and hence operates the shaft but is towards the left during movement of the vehicle and hence the distance drive overrides the time drive. The distance drive clutch 14 is driven from one of several gears 5 operating a pinion 16 through one of several pinions 38 positioned by a cam 42 according to the required tariff. The shaft 1 rotates a cam 6 to rock a bar 7 which rotates a wheel 9 geared 10, 11 to a counter 12.

Drive mechanism for an electrically driven timepiece comprises an oscillatory balance 60 carrying a driving coil 61 co-operating with at least one fixed magnet and stepping on a toothed wheel 67 of the motionwork, means for arresting this wheel in an indexed position between each step comprising magnetizable teeth on the wheel and a magnetizable detent member 69, 71 connected with the magnet, this detent member being arranged so that a portion 71 thereof establishes a flux path across a portion of the teeth of the toothed wheel, the path being substantially parallel to the axis of the toothed wheel. As shown, two magnets 62, 63 are fixed to a magnetizable bridge 64 which is extended to form the member 69, 71. The magnets may be of circular or oval cross-section. In another embodiment three magnets are used, and the extension of the magnetizable bridge forming the detent is cut out in the bridge by slots so that it can readily be bent into an adjusted position. In a further embodiment, the teeth of the wheel 67 are embraced on opposite sides by a nose-piece of the magnet and by the detent respectively. This nose-piece may be formed on an angularly adjustable ring on the magnet. In another embodiment, one portion of a magnet having multiple poles carries a fixed nose-piece connected with one of the poles and spaced opposite to the detent which is adjustably held by a rivet to the magnetizable bridge, the wheel teeth traversing the gap between these parts. In a modification, the portion 71 of the detent member is divided to form two parts corresponding to the tooth pitch of the wheel 67.

A mechanism with two moving parts to act as a 120° indexing or escapement drive using a rotating member and a pivoting arm which are shaped to act together with a closely defined geometric relationship. As an escapement, a wheel, provided with three acting points or pins, will have a 120° escapement motion for each oscillating cycle of a pivoting escapement arm. As an indexing drive, the same basic parts, aided by drive and backup means, will act in reverse: the oscillating pivoting arm is driving or indexing the wheel 120° per each oscillating cycle wherein the driven angle per each half cycle of oscillation could vary between an equal 60°-60° proportion and the other extreme of a 120°-0° proportion. The positive tie-in of the wheel and pivoting arm throughout the full oscillating cycle permits the use of the mechanism in either direction as an escapement or indexing drive or a combination of both.

The unidirectional coupling mobile according to the invention comprises a first wheel (1), a second wheel (2) coaxial to the first wheel (1) and comprising inner toothing (2b), a rigid driving member (5) that rotates as one with the first wheel (1) and at least one rigid pawl (6) connected to the rigid driving member (5) by an elastic blade (7). An automatic pawl winding mechanism for a watch movement has a rotor solidly attached to a rotor wheel and oscillating about the axis of a rotor pivot, a pawl wheel to which an oscillating motion of rotor is transmitted by the rotor wheel being pivoted about the axis of a pawl wheel shaft, at least one pawl being eccentrically attached to the pawl wheel shaft, and an automatic wheel cooperating with the pawl or pawls. The oscillating motion of the rotor wheel is thus transformed into a unidirectional rotary motion of the automatic wheel, and this rotary motion is transmitted to a ratchet wheel via a transformation gear train. The rotor, the gear train from the rotor with rotor wheel to the pawl wheel with the pawl or pawls is mounted on an independent rotor bridge while no other organ of the mechanism is mounted on this bridge.

A collector for an electrical machine is mass produced from laminations formed from a number of stampings, and cut out of a profiled rod with a cross section which corresponds to the shape of the collector. The starting material is a C section bar of hollow cross section with the opening on one side. The insulated armature (4) will fit into this hollow and the laminations clamp around it like a hook. When cutting the profiled bar a V-shaped cut-out is produced along the narrow edges, across the bar so that it produces a lamination with a trapezium the bar so that it produces a lamination with a trapezium shaped across section. The laminations are held in position by a fixing ring.

The invention relates to a day of the month display mechanism for a watch movement. The inventive mechanism comprises two mobile elements (1) each of which bears a sequence of numbers (10). The two mobile elements are disposed such that, for certain dates at least, the day of the month (3) displayed to the user corresponds to a combination of indications borne by the first element (1) and indications borne by the second element (2), while, for other dates, the day of the month (3) corresponds to a combination of two numbers from the same element (2). The second mobile element (2) is driven by the first element (1) by means of a star (50) which is held by a jumper (51) in order to prevent the unwanted rotation of said star. Moreover, a stop element (511) is arranged such as to prevent the aforementioned jumper from passing directly from one tooth (501) of the star to a non-adjacent tooth thereof when the date is being changed.
