In an electronic timepiece powered by a photovoltaic cell, the supply voltage fluctuates a great deal due to the varying amounts of light received by the photovoltaic cell. This presents special considerations for a low voltage alarm circuit. The present invention combines two alarms. First, there is a charging alarm which responds to voltage and which indicates that voltage is low and that the amount of light should be increased. If the light is increased, the circuit will continue to operate and no reset operation is needed. If on the other hand the voltage drops to the point where the circuit actually stops, a stop alarm is activated. The stop alarm is not responsive to voltage level. Instead, it is responsive to the fact that the circuit's oscillator has stopped. Furthermore, the stop alarm is provided with a memory and it will not automatically be reset if the voltage is increased.

The base plate is positioned on a bottom surface of the recess and secured in position by a resilient packing which is preferably made from a resin material. The packing extends around the base plate and has a portion which overlines the outer periphery of the base plate and on which is positioned the watch glass. Another portion of the packing extends between the outer periphery of the watch glass and a side wall of the recess to secure the watch glass in position. A structure of this type is particularly suitable for securing a base plate of a material such as epoxy resin to which fastening legs cannot easily be attached.

The timepiece has a cylindrical case; a crystal that covers the opening on the face side of the case; a drive mechanism that arranged inside the case; a metal antenna; and a dielectric. The antenna houses the drive mechanism and has a cylindrical side part, a bottom part that covers the opening on the back side of the side part, and an antenna electrode that contacts the inside of the side part. The dielectric extends circumferentially to the side part, and contacts the antenna electrode in the face-back cover direction. A slot extending circumferentially is formed in the antenna electrode.
