A valve poppet ( 54 ) is provided for use in a regulator valve assembly ( 200 ) for regulating the pressure of a flowing gas through a gas flow pressure regulator ( 300 ). The valve poppet is includes a valve disc ( 54 ) having a flexible portion ( 60 a ) so as to permit upward and downward movement of a valve stem ( 52 ) in an axial direction. The valve disc may have an edge portion ( 60 b ) that provides a preloading force to self-align the valve disc within a valve seat ( 70 ), and axially constrain the motion of valve stem. The valve stem ( 52 ) may extend perpendicularly relative to the valve disc from a sealing portion ( 58 ). The movement of the valve stem is axially constrained and results in upward and downward movement of the flexible portion when the valve is opened and closed. The flexible and end portions of the valve disc may be formed of a plurality of spiral arms for self-aligning and axially constraining the valve disc.

The disclosure teaches controlling the fluid flow and pressure, including adjustable pressure regulators, pressure regulators with an inlet restrictor, semi-automatic valve and pressure regulator with a by-pass valve which use one or more of movable shuttle, shuttle housing, a high pressure diaphragm, a low pressure diaphragm and a fluidic conduit connecting the inlet to the outlet. One or more of these implementations adjust to modify the outlet pressure of the regulator. The inlet restrictor allows incoming fluid to enter the pressure regulators when the pressure of the incoming fluid is higher than a threshold level. The semi-automatic valve is opened manually but closes automatically when fluid flowing through the valve is insufficient to keep the valve open. The semi-automatic valve can also be a semi-automatic electrical switch. The by-pass valve directs the flow to bypass the pressure regulator, when the flow is slow or has low pressure.

The invention provides a system for dispensing fluid at relatively constant pressure. In a first embodiment, the invention dispenses a fluid from a chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a second embodiment, the invention dispenses a fluid from a chamber defined by a dispensing membrane, which is substantially surrounded by another fluid contained within a pressure chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a third embodiment, the invention dispenses multiple fluids, a first fluid from a first dispensing chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane, and a second fluid from a dispensing chamber of varying dimension defined by a dispensing membrane substantially surrounded by the first fluid. In a fourth embodiment the invention dispenses multiple fluids from at least two dispensing chambers of varying dimension each substantially surrounded by the pressure fluid contained within a pressure chamber of varying dimension defined by a pre-tensioned resilient membrane. In a preferred embodiment, the resilient membrane is pre-tensioned beyond the point at which, as fluid enters the volume contained by the membrane and the volume increases, the first derivative of pressure over volume becomes zero for the first time.

Regulating system for fuel gas pressure in a burner ensures it can be adjusted to accommodate fuel gases supplied at different pressures. This can occur when gas of high calorific value is supplied at low pressure and gas of low calorific value is supplied at high pressure in order to ensure uniform heat output. The pressure regulator which has a diaphragm for actuating the valve controlling the flow rate of the fuel gas, has also pilot regulators (2, 3) each of which is adjusted to different pressure. These pilot regulators are connected for operating purposes by their control valves (4) as alternatives for actuating the pressure regulator (1). These control valves (4) are actuated by solenoids (29).

In one set of embodiments a selected section of tubular stock has its ends welded together to form a pillow-like pressure sensing device with an entry tube and an exit tube each configured to facilitate insertion of the pressure sensing device into the flow path of IV infusate in an IV administration set or system. Fluid pressure in excess of a predetermined amount reconfigures the pressure sensing device from a generally oval configuration to a generally circular configuration to restrict and/or cut off fluid flow into the device while permitting fluid flow from the device to reduce the fluid pressure again reconfiguring the device back to its generally oval configuration and permitting fluid flow into and through the device. In other embodiments a fluid pressure sensing device is formed with a fluid entry chamber and a fluid exit chamber interconnected by a passageway and provided with a piston that reacts to an increase in fluid pressure above a predetermined amount to close off the interconnection between the chambers and fluid flow into the exit chamber. Continued fluid flow from the eit chamber results in a reduction of fluid therein and reopening of the fluid passageway between the chambers.

Wird der Kurbelgehäusedruck über dem Saugrohrunterdruck aufgetragen, so ergibt sich bei hohen Volumenströmen eine steilere Regelkennlinie als bei kleinen Volumenströmen. The invention relates to a regulating valve (1) for regulating the flow rate and differential pressure in fluid-guiding heating or cooling systems, the regulating valve consisting of a housing (2) with an inlet (3) and outlet (4) and therebetween a connection piece (5) with disposed therein a regulating device (9), a first flow-regulating device (10) and a second flow-regulating device (11). In the direction of flow of the fluid flowing through the valve, following the inlet (3) is the first flow-regulating device (10), followed by the second flow-regulating device (11), followed by the regulating device (9), followed by the outlet (4). Further provided are a spindle (12), disposed in the connection piece (5), an actuating part (13) and a choke element (14) which is part of the first flow-regulating device (10). The spindle (12) axially penetrates both the regulating device and the second flow-regulating device (11).

The part 34 forms a moving seat with fluid flowing initially through apertures 28 in the valve member 22, past the valve seat and being guided by flow straightening fins 32 on to a mesh screen 39 which allows pressure to build up in the vicinity of holes 44 with increasing velocity of fluid flow.

When the pressure in the chamber (C1) is greater than a predetermined level, the valve (5) opens to feed the water into the chamber (C3) which builds up a pressure on the back of the diaphragm (M2). This forces the mushroom head (7) forward against the resistance of the spring (R) which drives the plunger (8) against the membrane (M1) thus forcing it against the seat (12) and cutting off the water flow. The silent gas expansion valve has a central inlet pipe with an outer coaxial outlet pipe. the annulus which communicates with the outlet is covered with a perforated plate. The perforated plate is, in turn, covered with a porous membrane. A flexible diaphragm is clamped between flanges and its upper surface is subjected to the control pressure in the space between them. The total area of the cross-section of the holes in the plate is equal to the effective area of flow through the porous membrane. When the gas pressure equals the control pressure the diaphragm is pushed off the porous membrane allowing the gas to flow from the inner tube to the annulus.

Increased pressure in the chamber 60' decreases the flow into the chamber 60' and decreasing pressure increases flow whereby fluid flow out from the chamber 60' is maintained at a desired pressure. The outlet pressure is adjusted by deflecting the diaphragm 20' in a direction to open the valve while permitting a section of the diaphragm 20' connected to the valve member 80' to remain responsive to the pressure in the chamber 60'. An adjustment cover 150 is provided to adjustably deflect the diaphragm 20' and includes a catch mechanism 158 to allow adjustment of the fluid outlet pressures and also retain the device 10' at a desired value. An indicator arrangement 166 may be provided to visually indicate the fluid outlet pressure.

An adjustment cover is provided to adjustably deflect the diaphragm and includes a catch mechanism to allow adjustment of the fluid outlet pressures and also retain the device at a desired value. An indicator arrangement may be provided to visually indicate the fluid outlet pressure.

A fluid, for example a gas, is introduced into the control chamber at a pressure equal to the control pressure, such pressure being adjustable by a piston slidably mounted in the control chamber. Fluid, under the pressure to be controlled, is introduced against the other side of the diaphragm. At the same time, fluid, the pressure of which is to be controlled, passes through a valve in the casing, the valve being slidably mounted in the flow chamber and connected to the diaphragm for movement therewith. Changes in pressure on the flow chamber side of the diaphragm result in movement of the diaphragm to open or close the valve, whereby the pressure of fluid passing through the valve is maintained constant.

Pressure-regulating valves; valves closing with rush of fluid; pressure-relieving devices for fluids.-A combined gas governor and automatic safety gas cut-off is arranged so that, as the pressure rises in the outlet, one valve tends to close the port, while, when the pressure falls, another valve tends to close the same port. The valves E<1>, E<2>, E<3>, E<4> mounted on the spindle Fare controlled by a diaphragm D, which takes up its load L only after rising beyond a predetermined point. The weights are supported by a hollow stud G, which also serves as a guide to the valve spindle and a vent passage to the diaphragm chamber C<1>. A bypass is arranged between the inlet and outlet so that, when a leak at the outlet side has been stopped, the pressure in the outlet again rises until the valve opens. In Figs. 1 and 2, the by-pass is shown in the valve spindle, and in Fig. 1 surrounding a spindle-guide M. A safety liquid seal 0, Fig. 3, may be connected by a pipe R to the vent opening C<4> and to the valve outlet through a pipe o<2> dipping into mercury. Any undue pressure in the outlet is relieved through the seal and produces a pressure above the diaphragm tending to close the valve, the released gas gradually escaping to atmosphere through a restricted orifice Q<2>. The diaphragm may be replaced by a bell, the weight loading by spring loading, or the lift valves by sliding or piston valves.

The invention relates to a mechanically operated liquid pump (1), particularly for medical or nutrition-physiological liquids, with a housing (2) and with an expandable elastic element (16), which is held therein and which serves to store and deliver the liquid, and with a closeable access (21) and exit (50) for the liquid from the elastic element as well as with a device for largely constantly maintaining or limiting the liquid volume flow discharged by the elastic element. According to the invention, the following features are provided: the elastic element is provided in the form of a balloon (16) that has an opening (17a); a core (11) is housed inside the housing and is inserted into the balloon via the opening; means (20) for fastening and sealing the balloon in the area of its end having the opening are provided on the core or on the housing, and; when relatively unstressed, the balloon rests against the core at a distance from its fastening.
