For example, a user may create a virtual package for all images related to a patient so that she may have a virtual package of all of her medical data to present to a referring physician.

A database for object recognition is generated by performing at least one of intra-object pruning and inter-object pruning, as well as keypoint clustering and selection. Intra-object pruning removes similar and redundant keypoints within an object and different views of the same object, and may be used to generate and associate a significance value, such as a weight, with respect to remaining keypoint descriptors. Inter-object pruning retains the most informative set of descriptors across different objects, by characterizing the discriminability of the keypoint descriptors for all of the objects and removing keypoint descriptors with a discriminability that is less than a threshold. Additionally, a mobile platform may download a geographically relevant portion of the database and perform object recognition by extracting features from the query image and using determined confidence levels for each query feature during outlier removal.

Further descriptions of that finding, such as dimensional measurements, may be automatically appended to the finding as secondary attributes. After the evaluation, the system sorts the findings in the database and presents the findings by prioritized categories. The expert edits and approves a multimedia report which may be delivered by electronic means to an end-user.

In this paper, we demonstrate that knowledge of where images were taken and where they were pointed makes it possible to visualize large sets of photographs in powerful, intuitive new ways. We present and evaluate a set of novel tools that use location and orientation information, derived semi-automatically using structure from motion, to enhance the experience of exploring such large collections of images.

The final classifier may use results from the intermediate classifiers to produce a final relevance metric for the digital images. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Training data may be obtained and used in weighting visual features in a query image and, alternatively, in searchable database images.

A video indexing system uses pictures representative of a recorded video program to assist a user in determining the contents of a recorded medium without having to view the program itself. The pictures preferably represent segments of the program which are spaced apart in time, enabling a relatively small number of such pictures to characterize a lengthy program, and are presented in separate windows on the screen of the same device used to display the video program. The pictures may include still or moving imagery. A viewer optionally may select a particular picture with a pointing device, to commence replay of the recorded program from that period in the program, or to recall stored audio information so as to assist in identifying the selection. The picture information may be stored on the same medium as that used to record the video program, or a different medium may be used.

When a search engine's web crawler encounters a page having a spatial key embedded in an image, the spatial key is indexed with the other content on the page. Because the spatial key identifies a small geographic area, indexing the content with the spatial key allows search queries to be limited by area and still provide useful results. Thus, a user of a search engine searching for “house for sale” in a specific area will be directed to web pages that meet the geographic and content search terms.

The modified tile regions are written back to the output image in the frame buffer in the main memory (step 47 ), but any regions whose dirty bits have not been set are not written back to the frame buffer in the main memory.
