A synthetic gesture trace generator is described. In an embodiment, a synthetic gesture trace is generated using a gesture synthesizer which may be implemented in software. The synthesizer receives a number of inputs, including parameters associated with a touch sensor to be used in the synthesis and a gesture defined in terms of gesture components. The synthesizer breaks each gesture component into a series of time-stamped contact co-ordinates at the frame rate of the sensor, with each time-stamped contact co-ordinate detailing the position of any touch events at a particular time. Sensor images are then generated from the time-stamped contact co-ordinates using a contact-to-sensor transformation function. Where there are multiple simultaneous contacts, there may be multiple sensor images generated having the same time-stamp and these are combined to form a single sensor image for each time-stamp. This sequence of sensor images is formatted to create the synthetic gesture trace.

A mechanism is disclosed for automatically scaling the size of a set of visual content based upon how close a user's face is to a display. In one implementation, the mechanism initially causes a set of visual content on a display to be sized according to a first scaling factor when the user's face is at a first distance from the display. The mechanism then determines that the user's face has moved relative to the display such that the user's face is no longer at the first distance from the display. In response, the mechanism causes the set of visual content on the display to be sized according to a second and different scaling factor. By doing so, the mechanism effectively causes the display size of the visual content to automatically change as the distance between the user's face and the display changes.

When the user clicks and holds the thumb, the current page of the document is shown at a second zoom level, which may be a full-page zoom level at which an entire page of the document fits in the viewing area. The user may drag the thumb, thereby changing the current page being shown at the second zoom level. When the use releases the thumb, the current page may be shown at the first zoom level.
