A method of prioritizing the automated translation of communications includes capturing and inputting into a data processing system a translation-candidate communication rendered in a first human language. A first data set representative of the translation-candidate communication is stored in computer memory and parsed into communication sub-portions. Communication sub-portions are algorithmically selected for translation depending on their relatedness to a predetermined topic as determined by first-language extraction rules. Each selected communication sub-portion is translated to a translated-data-set sub-portion representative of that selected communication sub-portion in the second human language. Translated-data-set sub-portions are subjected to a secondary filtration process in accordance with which their relatedness to the predetermined topic is determined by second-language extraction rules. Translated-data-set sub-portions determined to contain information sufficiently related to the predetermined topic are converted to converted-data-set sub-portions representative of the translated-data-set sub-portions in a human-intelligible format and outputted through a machine-to-human interface.

The contextual language learning capability is configured to modify source content (in which content is provided in the first language) to form modified content (including a combination of content in the first language and content in the second language). The source content is processed to replace at least a portion of the content provided in the first language with corresponding content provided in the second language, thereby producing the modified content. The modified content is presented to the end user for use in learning the second language. The replacement of a subset of the source content in the first language with corresponding content in the second language gives context to the content in the second language, thereby giving the end user an understandable context for the content provided in the second language. This increases the likelihood that the end user will be able to understand and, thus, learn, the second language.

Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in conventional systems by correcting an erroneous term in on-screen caption text for a media asset. In some aspects, the systems and methods identify the erroneous term in a text segment of the on-screen caption text, and identify one or more video frames of the media asset corresponding to the text segment. A chatbot system is configured to execute code to perform determining, by the chatbot system, a classification result for an utterance and one or more anchors each anchor of the one or more anchors corresponding to one or more anchor words of the utterance. For each anchor of the one or more anchors, one or more synthetic utterances are generated, and one or more classification results for the one or more synthetic utterances are determined. A report is generated by the chatbot system comprising a representation of a particular anchor of the one or more anchors, the particular anchor corresponding to a highest confidence value among the one or more anchors. The one or more synthetic utterances may be used to generate a new training dataset for training a machine-learning model. The training dataset may be refined according to a threshold confidence values to filter out datasets for training.
