Systems and methods are described for providing sensing slack on cabling coupled between a drive mechanism and a carriage. Embodiments of the carriage are configured so that the cables are substantially in tension when Z-directional movement of the carriage is substantially unimpeded and at least one cable manifests slack when Z-directional movement is impeded. Accordingly, detecting slack on the cables can be used to detect impedance to Z-directional movement of the carriage. According to some embodiments, a novel slack sensor translates tension on the cables into a forward pulling force that holds the slack sensor in a deactivated state. A reverse force is maintained on the slack sensor in a magnitude and direction that causes the slack sensor to move to an activated state whenever sufficient tension is not manifest on the cables. A disadvantage is reduced in which a front panel of an optical disc unit tilts by a clearance (rattle) between the components and contacts with a body of a PC incorporating the unit to cause malfunction of insertion and ejection of discs. A disc tray is provided to move relative to rail guides attached to a bottom case of the optical disc unit via rails. The disc tray and rail guides have projection portions to contact with each other with stress. As a result, the clearance is reduced and the disadvantage due to the malfunction is reduced. The contact of the projection portions is close to point contact. The number of the contact positions is three or four. Support portions are provided to the rail guides to generate the stress.

The present invention relates to a library system including a disc recording/reproducing unit, a disc container, and a disc transport unit for transporting a disc between the disc recording/reproducing unit and the disc container. In order to improve the reliability of the operation of moving the disc from the disc recording/reproducing unit to the disc transport unit, a disc transport controller determines the situation in both the disc recording/reproducing unit and the disc transport unit, and error-stops the operation according to the result of the determination. Alternatively, the disc transport controller retries the movement of the disc, by pulling the disc into the disc transport unit or returning the disc to the disc recording/reproducing unit, and by finely adjusting the relative positions of the disc recording/reproducing unit and the disc transport unit if necessary, in order to solve the problem of damage to a surface of the disc. 1. A disc transfer device according to the present disclosure is a disc transfer device that transfers a disc in a first direction from a first position toward a third position via a second position, and includes a roller, a roller support mechanism, a first retaining member, a second retaining member, and a retaining member support mechanism. An apparatus for changing a record comprisinga record changing fork comprising first and second spaced apart tines arranged in a record plane and extending from a fork base to a fork mouth, each tine comprising a groove extending from the fork mouth at least part way to the fork base, the grooves being arranged to hold a record therebetween in the record plane;at least one tine comprising a resiliently deformable record gate, the record gate being adapted to prevent sliding of a record in the grooves past the record gate unless the record is slid with a force exceeding a threshold force;at least one shelf adapted to support a record, the width of the shelf being less than the separation between the tines; and,a control mechanism connected to the record changing fork, the control mechanism being adapted to reciprocally displace the record changing fork along a length axis extending from the fork mouth to the fork base and a height axis normal to the record plane;the shelf comprising at least one end stop adapted to prevent sliding of a record off the shelf in a direction parallel to the length axis towards the record changing fork and at least one back stop adapted to prevent sliding of a record ...
