According to one embodiment, two switches are oriented side-by-side, rather than end-to-end, in a die package. This configuration reduces the total switch resistance for a given die area, often reducing the resistance enough to avoid the use of backmetal in order to meet resistance specifications. Elimination of backmetal reduces the overall cost of the die package and removes the potential failure modes associated with the manufacture of backmetal. Embodiments of the present invention may also allow for more pin connections and an increased pin pitch. This results in redundant connections for higher current connections, thereby reducing electrical and thermal resistance and minimizing the costs of manufacture or implementation of the die package.

A method of testing a battery is provided the method may include: (a) applying a heavy load to the battery, (b) measuring the voltage V 1 between the positive and negative terminals of the battery after a first time period under which the battery is subjected to the heavy load; (c) removing the heavy load, (d) waiting for a second length of time, (e) reading the voltage across the positive and negative terminals after the second length of time V 2 , (f) performing a cold cranking amps CCA test if the CCA test indicates a CCA value above a first threshold, then consider V 2 , if V 2 is below the second threshold than skip to step g but if V 2 is above a second threshold than determine if the V 2 is above a third threshold, if V 2 is above a third threshold than determine that the battery is good and skip steps g-h; but if V 2 is below the third threshold then if a battery charge flag has been set, determine that the battery is bad and skip steps g and h, if the battery charge flag has not been set, determine that the battery is good but needs additional charging and skip steps g-h, if the CCA test indicates a CCA valve below the first threshold then move to step g, (g) determine if the battery charge flag has been set, if the battery charge flag has been set, then determine that the battery is bad, if the battery charge flag has not been set then move to step h; and (h) applying a charging current to the battery if the charging current is less than a fourth threshold amount then stop charging the battery and return to step a, if the charging current is greater than the fourth threshold amount, then charge the battery for a third length of time then stop charging the battery and return to step a.

A temperature sensor as disclosed herein may be powered by a monitored cell with relatively little impact on cell charge, may be electrically coupled to cell but housed physically separate from the cell, and/or may monitor multiple cells in a multiplex fashion. A rate of change in phase shift may be used to initiate pre-emptive action, without determining corresponding temperatures.

The input of each respective first isolator and each respective second isolator for each module is disposed controllably to receive an activation signal from the module indicative of a module fault to be annunciated or to receive a test signal from the module, the test signal being smaller than the activation signal. The outputs of the respective first isolators are aggregated to a first node and the outputs of the respective second isolators are aggregated to a second node. A selection circuit selects from the first node and the second node, yielding a fault signal output when the selected node satisfies a predetermined condition. An analog-to-digital converter is coupled with each of the nodes, the analog-to-digital converter disposed to sense an output from one of the isolators indicative of its response characteristic in the event of a test signal being applied to the isolator.

With the charging cable being provided with the probe pins and the silicone rubbers, in use, the probe pins of the charging cable are respectively put in alignment with metal plates of the battery and the silicone rubbers are looped around the battery, so that engagement between the probe pins and the metal plates of the battery are made tight.
