Audio distortion by a speaker may be reduced by detecting onset audio events within an audio signal and modifying the audio to reduce the audio distortion perceived by a listener. The onsets may be detected using a psych-acoustic model by determining critical sub-band powers and corresponding masking thresholds. When a loudness value calculated from the CSBs and masking thresholds exceeds a threshold level, certain frequency bands may be attenuated and other frequency bands may be amplified. The audio modification may be performed on a frame by frame basis and each frame may be processed multiple times until the onset is sufficiently masked or attenuated. Transients are detected in distortion producing frequency bands which are typically low frequencies 202, the distortion producing bands may be attenuated 204, distortion masking bands may also be amplified 206 to reduce perceived distortion.

The volume control method includes: configuring the electronic device to receive the external audio signal; configuring the electronic device to compare a sound track of the external audio signal with a preset sound track and to make a determination as to whether a degree of similarity between the two sound tracks reaches a preset ratio; and configuring the electronic device to stop outputting the output audio signal when a result of the determination is affirmative.

Modification parameters are obtained for at least one of the plurality of frequency band. Gain factors are derived for at least one of the plurality of frequency bands, the gain factors determined based on the amplitude scale factors. The gain factors are smoothed. A level of noise from noise compensation factors is determined. The gain factors are applied to at least one of the frequency bands to generate gain adjusted frequency bands. The level of noise is adjusted based on the gain adjusted frequency bands. At least one of the frequency bands is filtered with a filter generated with the filter coefficients. The plurality of frequency bands is synthesized to generate an output audio signal. 1. An electronic device and a corresponding method for analyzing and playing sound signals are provided. The electronic device includes a microphone, a processor, and a speaker. The microphone receives a sound and generates a sound signal according to the sound. An alarm tone adjustment circuit includes a sound collection unit with a function of collecting sound of a surrounding environment, an analog-digital (A/D) convertor, and a processing unit. The A/D convertor transforms the sound of a surrounding environment from the sound collection unit to a digital signal. The processing unit is coupled to the A/D convertor and an alarm tone unit, and determines a decibel range of the sound of surrounding environment according to a duty cycle of the digital signal, and adjusts a volume of a ring output from the alarm tone unit according to the decibel range of the sound of surrounding environment. Therefore, the alarm tone of the electronic device can be changed effectively according to the sound of surrounding environment.
