Radio station information can be rendered via a graphical interface of a client device to allow the user to informatively select a new radio station, either before or as a current radio signal degrades to the point of being unusable. Small changes in a broadcast version of a base media item can be identified by performing a multi-level comparison of digital fingerprints. A fingerprint of a base media item is compared to a fingerprint of a media broadcast to determine whether a media item embedded in a broadcast is likely, to a first level of certainty, to be the base media item. A second, more stringent, match between the fingerprint of the base media item and loosely matched items can be used to identify potentially-altered versions of the base media item. Systems and methods for increasing transmission bandwidth efficiency by the analysis and synthesis of the ultimate components of transmitted content are presented. To implement such a system, a dictionary or database of elemental codewords can be generated from a set of audio clips. Using such a database, a given arbitrary song or other audio file can be expressed as a series of such codewords, where each given codeword in the series is a compressed audio packet that can be used as is, or, for example, can be tagged to be modified to better match the corresponding portion of the original audio file. Each codeword in the database has an index number or unique identifier. For a relatively small number of bits used in a unique ID, e.g. 27-30, several hundreds of millions of codewords can be uniquely identified. By providing the database of codewords to receivers of a broadcast or content delivery system in advance, instead of broadcasting or streaming the actual compressed audio signal, all that need be transmitted is the series of identifiers along with any modification instructions to the identified codewords. After reception, intelligence on the receiver having access to a locally stored copy of the dictionary can reconstruct the original audio clip by accessing the codewords via the received IDs, modify them as instructed by the modification instructions, further modify the codewords either individually or in groups using the audio profile of the original audio file (also sent by the encoder) and play back a generated sequence of phase corrected codewords and modified codewords as instructed. A method for reception-side decoding of an RDS signal , comprising:determining an extremum among absolute values of integrals of the RDS signal, said integrals being obtained over an interval of elementary extent equal to a binary digit period said interval moving from a start point over at least one movement extent larger than or equal to the binary digit period; andextracting a “0” binary digit if the extremum is a minimum, and a “1” binary digit if the extremum is a maximum.2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first start point is an arbitrary point claim 1 , and wherein the movement extent is equal to a binary digit period.3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein following the determination of an extremum claim 1 , a number m of binary digits is extracted via the following steps:calculating absolute values of the integrals of the RDS signal, said integrals being obtained over m intervals starting at m “multiple” points of a point at which an extremum has been detected, i.e. at ti+kT, with k an integer varying from 1 to m, said intervals being of extent substantially equal to a binary digit period; andextracting a “0” digit if the absolute value of the integral is lower than 10% of the maximum value, and a “1” digit if the absolute value of the integral is higher than 90% of the maximum value.4. A method and system of performing high-throughput identifications of broadcast content is provided. A device can send a content identification query, which includes a sample of content being broadcast, to a server to request an identity of the content. The server will perform a computational identification of the content, return the result to the device, and store the result. For all subsequently received content identification queries requesting an identity of content being broadcast from the same source and in a time during which the content is still being broadcast from the source, the server will send the stored content identification in response to the subsequent queries. If a subsequent content identification query does not request the identity of content being broadcast from the same source or is not received during the time that the content is still being broadcast, the server will perform a computational identification of a content sample.
