A method for determining metrics of a content delivery and global traffic management network provides service metric probes that determine the service availability and metric measurements of types of services provided by a content delivery machine. Latency probes are also provided for determining the latency of various servers within a network. The latency probe calculates, for example, the latency from its location to a client's location using the round trip time for sending a packet to the client to obtain the latency value for that client. DNS servers use the latency test results, along with traffic weightings, to determine a server to return for a given DNS name.

The present invention provides a system and method of determining available bandwidth at a physical layer (PHY) device at a server on a broadband network. A link layer controller of a master administrator adaptively polls a PHY device over a set of time intervals. During polling, the controller places a PHY device's address on a line of a bus and awaits a response from the PHY device. Based upon the response from the PHY device, the administrator can determine whether the PHY device has available bandwidth. The link layer controller uses this information to recalculate its polling scheme to better make use of the available bandwidth over the shared transmission medium to which each PHY device in the network is attached. 1. Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for annotating process and user information for network flows. In some embodiments, a capturing agent, executing on a first device in a network, can monitor a network flow associated with the first device. The first device can be, for example, a virtual machine, a hypervisor, a server, or a network device. Next, the capturing agent can generate a control flow based on the network flow. The control flow may include metadata that describes the network flow. The capturing agent can then determine which process executing on the first device is associated with the network flow and label the control flow with this information. Finally, the capturing agent can transmit the labeled control flow to a second device, such as a collector, in the network.

A network state is verified in real-time by precomputing a data structure representing header spaces of data packets in respective equivalence classes (ECs) in a first snapshot of the network and in a second snapshot of the network at a later time. The data structure includes respective bitmaps indicating for each data packet forwarding rule for each node in the network a forwarding action to be taken for each EC in the network. A method for determining metrics of a content delivery and global traffic management network provides service metric probes that determine the service availability and metric measurements of types of services provided by a content delivery machine. Latency probes are also provided for determining the latency of various servers within a network. Service metric probes consult a configuration file containing each DNS name in its area and the set of services. Each server in the network has a metric test associated with each service supported by the server which the service metric probes periodically performs metric tests on and records the metric test results which are periodically sent to all of the DNS servers in the network. Systems and methods for social graph data analytics to determine the connectivity between nodes within a community are provided. A user may assign user connectivity values to other members of the community, or connectivity values may be automatically harvested or assigned from third parties or based on the frequency of interactions between members of the community. Connectivity values may represent such factors as alignment, reputation, status, and/or influence within a social graph of a network community, or the degree of trust. The paths connecting a first node to a second node may be retrieved, and social graph data analytics may be performed on the retrieved paths. For example, a network connectivity value may be determined from all or a subset of all of the retrieved paths. Network connectivity values and/or other social graph data may be outputted to third-party processes, services, and ratings agencies for use in initiating automatic transactions, making automated network-based or real-world decisions, determining or verifying the identity of a node within the community, scoring or ranking nodes, or making credit-granting decisions.

Methods and system to determine the health of wireless mesh networks are provided. Each radio node of a wireless mesh network transmits Link Quantification Messages (LQMs) interPAN at maximum power to enable adjacent nodes to determine the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) on the wireless link to that radio node. Each radio node also transmits LQMs at successively lower power levels. The adjacent nodes detect a power level at measurable packet error rate to determine a noise floor for the wireless link. An aggregator collects link quantification information from the radio nodes and forms an intercommunication matrix for the wireless network. The RSSI and power level at measurable packet error rate information is used to remove unreliable links from the intercommunication matrix. Nodes are ranked and the reliability and dependability of the nodes is calculated to show the network health. 1. Techniques for optimizing technologies related to network path tracing and network delay measurements are described herein. A method comprising:creating a network path bond between a plurality of compute instances and a plurality of Network Virtualization Devices (“NVD”), each of the plurality of NVDs comprising a Virtualized Network Interface Card (“VNIC”) for each of the compute instances, each of the VNICs having an overlay IP address corresponding to an IP address of the compute instance associated with the VNIC, the network path bond comprising a plurality of network paths, wherein each of the plurality of network paths connects the each of the compute instances to associated VNIC of one of the plurality of NVDs;identifying a monitoring bond coupling the plurality of NVDs to a monitoring agent;creating a number of monitoring VNICs, each of the number of monitoring VNICs residing in one of the plurality of NVDs;overlaying a unique IP address to each of the monitoring VNICs;determining with the monitoring agent a health of at least one of network paths, the network paths comprising an active network path and an inactive network path; andactivating the inactive network path when the active network path fails.2. In some embodiments, a system can receive, from a first capturing agent deployed in a virtualization layer of a first device, data reports generated based on traffic captured by the first capturing agent. In some examples, a system can collect, from one or more sensors that monitor at least part of data traffic being transmitted via a pair of nodes in a network, information of the data traffic. Disabling of Multiple Bitrate Algorithm for Media Programs while Playing Advertisements

In one embodiment, a method determines first information from a component of a computing device to determine when receiving of one or more advertisements will affect an available bandwidth reading that is based on receiving of a media program. Then, the method dynamically disables a multiple bitrate algorithm based upon the first information such that a new bitrate version of the media program cannot be requested by the multiple bitrate algorithm for the media player. Second information is determined from the component of the computing device to determine when the available bandwidth reading will not be affected by receiving of the one or more advertisements. The method then dynamically enables the multiple bitrate algorithm based on the second information. The multiple bitrate algorithm is then allowed to request the different bitrate version of the media program based on the available bandwidth reading.
