The invention relates to a method of determining cross channel interference in a Discrete Multitone (DMT) implementation of a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) system. The cross channel interference is determined utilizing a residual impulse spectrum after implementation of a Time Equalization (TEQ) algorithm. In one application the cross channel interference value is used in a bit allocation algorithm to improve error rate such that more bits are allocated to the channels with low interference and fewer bits are allocated to those channels having high interference. In this application the bit allocation algorithm is run twice, once before the interference measurement and once after. The residual impulse spectrum is derived by taking a Fourier Transform of the impulse response coefficients which remain after zeroing of the coefficients corresponding to a cyclic prefix inserted in the data stream. Applications include DSL and ADSL systems.

It is possible to realize reduction of inter-cell interference by an adaptive FFR with a low delay. A terminal (200) includes: an interference condition detection unit (209) which detects an interference condition of other cell to the local cell; a cell identification unit (210) which acquires an identification signal of each base station; and a sub-band selection unit (211) which selects a sub-band used for the downstream line transmission to the local station according to the interference condition detected by the interference condition detection unit (209) and the identification signal of each base station obtained by the cell identification unit (210). Thus, the terminal (200) can autonomously select a small sub-band of inter-cell interference and to realize reduction of the inter-cell interference by the adaptive FFR with a low delay.

The method comprises the steps of: receiving a message 2 from a base station, the message 2 being used for an assignment of resource to transmit a message 3, the assigned resource corresponding to N HARQ RTTs, where 1≦N≦8; and transmitting the message 3 only in part of the N HARQ RTTs. With the scheme of the invention, a MTC device selectively transmits the Msg3 in one/some HARQ RTT and maintains silence in another one/some HARQ RTT, thus the possibility of the occurrence of access collision with other UEs may be backed off, such that other UEs, particularly human-to-human UEs, may transmit the Msg3 normally. And the possibility of the occurrence of collision is reduced from the viewpoint of the user equipments in a network, reducing entirely the possibility of an access delay and access failure.

A channel determination method is disclosed that can avoid performance deterioration caused by interference even in a situation in which radio waves from other communication apparatuses including a microwave oven using the same frequency band are mixed. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to communicate with a base station on different channels or messages with different processing timelines. In order to prevent a collision between processing communications associated with the different length TTIs, the UE may drop one or more communications on corresponding channels with longer processing timelines to receive and/or process the transmission on the channel with a shorter processing timeline. Various methods for controlling an aggressor user equipment (UE) can use two transmission power control loops to mitigate UE-to-UE adjacent carrier frequency band interference to a geographically proximal victim UE. The aggressor UE can select between different transmission power parameters based on two (or more) power values. The usage of any particular power value depends on the time period of the transmission. For example, if a proximal victim UE is scheduled to receive when the aggressor UE is scheduled to transmit, a lower power value may be selected as instructed by a co-scheduler or determined by the aggressor UE. The aggressor UE can also send dual power headroom reports to its serving base station based on the two power values.
