When the mobile device receives an event that forces the application program to terminate, the mobile device can provide a time window in which the mobile device can perform various state preservation actions. During the time window, the mobile device can store data states, including states of the connection and states of the cached data. When the application program is re-launched, the mobile device can use the stored data states to restore a connection and a displayed view.

Then, to avoid the possibility of a video freeze, the device could request the next chunk at a lower resolution. In some situations, the device decides to request a completely different chunk or to not request any chunk at all.

In one exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes a server performing real-time receipt and encapsulation of the EAS data (which may comprise audio, video, and/or text), transport of the EAS data to client devices over the network, and use of one or more applications running on the client devices to decode and display/present the EAS data in a manner which effectively guarantees that it will be perceived by the viewer. In one variant, instant messaging (IM) infrastructure is used to authenticate clients and receive and display at least portion of the EAS data via a separate transport process. Server and client-side apparatus adapted for EAS data receipt, decoding and display are also disclosed.

Therefore, entities within a packet-switched telecommunications network (e.g. an IMS network) that handle the terminating call for a call that is delivered to circuit-switched telecommunications network access (e.g. GSM), receive location information related to the connected party, i.e. the party (mobile terminal) receiving the call. This information is received transparently in SIP signalling.
