When a caller 40 wishes to make an authenticated voice or video call to a recipient 42, they first initiate a call S2 to an authentication server 36. After authenticating the caller S3 and S4, the server initiates a call to the recipient S5. When the recipient answers, the server transmits a unique identifier to the recipient's device S6, the identifier being uniquely associated with the recipient, e.g. a pre-stored recording of the recipient's voice. This allows the recipient (or the recipient's device) to authenticate the server. The server then also authenticates the recipient S7, S8 before connecting the caller to the recipient S9. In another embodiment a call identification is sent to a recipient's PC (T8, fig. 3). When the recipient takes the call on their mobile device, they check whether the call identification they hear matches that displayed on the PC. In a peer-to-peer embodiment, each user authenticates the other directly without communicating with an intermediary server.

A method and structure for avoiding undesirable interruptions by incoming calls during face-to-face conversations or oral presentations. A speaker recognition circuit is trained to recognize the user's voice, even in the presence of other voices and ambient noise. A number of speaker recognition algorithms may be employed within the scope of the invention. The phone is configured to constantly monitor the aural phone environment, while recording in a FIFO memory a short interval of digitized sound. When an incoming call is received, the Caller ID is checked against a pre-defined Priority List of numbers to be directed to the user's attention as in the prior art. If the Caller ID is not on the Priority List, speaker recognition verifies whether the user has been speaking within the past few seconds, and, if so, directs the incoming call to voice mail without interrupting the user. Other sensor input and criteria can also be used to determine how to route an incoming communication.

A computing device, that is showing a breathing view on its touch screen display, detects a peek request event, such as a swipe on the display. Before allowing the user to see potentially private information in response to the peek request, the computing device determines if the computing device is currently locked and if an increased privacy setting is enabled. A method of establishing communication between mobile terminals includes receiving a communication request from a caller terminal, the communication request including at least a caller number and information for determining an identification code of a callee terminal, the information including a number of the callee terminal or an owner name of the callee terminal. The method also includes obtaining the identification code of the callee terminal based on the information and inquiring about a corresponding record associated with the caller terminal and the callee terminal by use of a pre-stored address book referencing relationship and a communication history, based on the caller number and the identification code of the callee terminal. The method further includes computing a communication right value based on the corresponding record and determining whether the computed communication right value exceeds a pre-determined threshold. In response to a determination that the computed communication right value exceeds the pre-determined threshold, communication between the caller terminal and the callee terminal is established.

Techniques for authenticating the identity of a caller in a telephone call are disclosed. The device generating the call implements encrypting caller identification information and initiating the telephone call, said initiating comprising providing a voice carrier signal including the caller identification information; and simultaneously providing a data carrier signal including the encrypted caller identification information. The receiving device implements receiving the telephone call; decrypting the encrypted caller identification information at the recipient device; and verifying the identity of at least an unknown caller at the recipient device by at least one of verifying the authenticity of a certificate used to encrypt the caller identification information; and comparing the decrypted caller identification information with the caller identification information from the voice carrier signal.
