A method for enhancing detail information in rasterized, continuous tone images includes a function that enlarges the contrast of a pixel in a neighborhood of pixels when in that neighborhood one of the pixels has a value that is close to a white color. This is determined by selecting the whitest pixel in the neighborhood. The function shows a gradual transition between the situations in which the whitest pixel is close to the white color and in which the whitest pixel is far from the white color. The method results in a better rendering of fine print when the image is sent to a printing system that reproduces the image on receiving material. For small characters, the legibility is improved by application of this method.

Enhancing the contrast is known to make a displayed object more distinguishable, with some impact on the overall image quality. The apparatus also includes a reconstructor that reconstructs an enhanced image from the modified representation and returns the enhanced image. 1. The method involves retrieving a look-up table comprising a plurality of nodes that map input space values to Neugebauer Primary Area Coverage vectors. The printing system is used to print a set of ramps, each ramp comprising a plurality of test areas. The test areas for each ramp are defined by varying vector element values corresponding to input space values that vary in a dimension of the input space. A method for color grading a first color frame according to a first reference color frame is described. The method includes selecting a color transformation already applied to one second color frame, according to a second reference color frame, the second color frame being different from the first color frame and applying, to said first color frame, the selected color transformation. An image forming apparatus prints an image using a color conversion table. The image forming apparatus includes a representative color acquisition section and a color adjustment section. The representative color acquisition section acquires at least one representative color of the image. The color adjustment section adjusts a reproduced color, of a color included in the image, obtained with reference to the color conversion table. The color adjustment section adjusts the reproduced color, of the color included in the image, obtained with reference to the color conversion table, based on positional relationship in a color space between a reproduced color of the representative color obtained by a display device and a reproduced color of the representative color obtained with reference to the color conversion table. 1.
