A field sensor may be capable of generating a panoramic field, e.g., by instructing the user to capture a sequence of fields of the panorama, performing a field evaluation to identify one or more landmarks depicted in overlapping areas of two contiguous fields, performing a field registration therebetween, and stitching together the panoramic field. However, panoramic field stitching based on field evaluation may fail to register two fields accurately or at all. Rather, panoramic field stitching may be performed using a device having an orientation sensor that detects the orientation of the device while capturing each field with a field sensor. The detected orientation may be used to orient the fields within a projection, from which a panoramic field may be accurately stitched. Additional variations include stitching together projections of the panorama captured at different times and utilizing fields captured at a distance from the root location of the panorama.

By providing a user with access over a computer network to the surveillance video, the user can monitor a location without owning, operating, or maintaining a surveillance server of its own.

Image enhancement by separating the image signals, either Y or RGB, into a series of bands and performing noise reduction on bands below a given frequency but not on bands above that frequency. The bands are summed to develop the image enhanced signals. This results in improved sharpness and masking of image processing pipeline artifacts. Chroma signals are not separated into bands but have noise reduction applied to the full bandwidth signals. The higher frequency band is attenuated or amplified based on light level. The noise reduction has thresholds based on measured parameters, such as signal frequency, gain and light level, provided in a lookup table. The window size used for the noise reduction varies with the light level as well, smaller windows sizes being used in bright light and increasing window sizes as light levels decrease. Panoramic images are handled in a similar fashion.

The camera body includes a plurality of USB ports for the USB signal line of the at least one imaging module to insert therein, a CPU and at least one signal output interface. The image sensor captures a digital image via the lens. The digital image is processed by the image digital signal processor and the video encoder and transmitted to the camera body via the USB connecting line. The digital image is further processed by computations of the CPU to form required signals outputted via the signal output interface.

An optical apparatus includes a camera casing, a first optical module and a second optical module. The first optical module and the second optical module are installed on the camera casing. The first optical module receives an ambient light to capture a first image. The second optical module receives the ambient light to capture a second image, or the second optical module senses the ambient light. At least one of the first optical module and the second optical module has a non-linear optical axis in order to replace the front camera module and the rear camera module of the conventional panoramic camera. The optical apparatus is additionally installed on a periphery region of a portable electronic device or an extension position extended from the periphery region. Consequently, the optical apparatus provides a sufficient space to accommodate the first optical module and the second optical module.
