The method and system for TV user profile data prediction and modeling allows accurate and narrowly focused behavioral clustering. A client-side system classifies television consumers into representative user profiles. The profiles target individual user advertising and program preference category groups. A contextual behavioral profiling system determines the user's monitor behavior and content preferences, and the system may be continually updated with user information. A behavioral model database is queried by various system modules. The programming, including targeted advertising for television and interactive television is based on the profile data prediction, modeling and preference determination. The system is enabled to present a complete program sequence to the viewer based on the preference determination and stored programming. The latter is referred to as automatic program sequence (virtual channel) creation and the virtual channel can be presented as a separate channel in an electronic programming guide (EPG).

Particular embodiments use aggregation logic that reduces the noise in a daisy-chained optical return signal aggregation of multiple nodes. The aggregation logic determines when an input to a transmitter/receiver is not used and disables or turns off that input. Further, in the case of daisy-chaining, a service group aggregation signal (e.g., RF signals) from the customer premise equipment (CPEs) serviced by a respective node are presented to the channel “A” port of a digital return transmitter/receiver. However, internal to the transmitter/receiver, aggregation logic auto-senses what optical return signals have already been aggregated up to that point in the daisy chain and can then intelligently place the service group aggregation signal onto one of the digital return transmitter channels. In one embodiment, if there are two return channels, A and B, whichever of these channels has seen fewer aggregations up to this point, will receive the service group aggregation signal.

A content storage method and system for use in a content distribution network are provided. A personal file locker is established on the network for a user. A content-storage-request database is established. The database tracks requests by the user for placing video programs into the user's file locker for personal use by the user. Upon the broadcasting of a video program for which there exists a request by the user to place the video program into the user's file locker, the requested video program is stored in the user's file locker. The stored video program is then made available to the user for viewing. A system for providing television (TV) service including high definition television (HDTV) service, and for providing verification that a subscriber has connected an HDTV to the system includes a TV service provider headend and a set top box (STB). The HDTV may have an HDTV digital video interface (DVI) interconnect. The STB may be electrically coupled to the headend and have an STB DVI interconnect. When the HDTV DVI interconnect is initially electrically coupled to the STB DVI interconnect, the HDTV generally presents a data signal to the STB and the STB generally presents the data signal to the headend. 1. A method comprising:receiving, by a computing device, from a video viewing device, and based on a request for a response indicating a type of video viewing device, a signal indicating the type of the video viewing device;selecting, based at least in part on the signal, a second video format from a plurality of video formats comprising a first video format and the second video format, wherein the second video format corresponds to higher display capability parameters than the first video format; andcausing transmission, to the video viewing device and after the selecting the second video format, of video content formatted in accordance with the second video format.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second video format comprises a high-definition television (HDTV) signal format.3. A network interface device includes a passive path between an entry port and a first port. The network interface device also includes an active path between the entry port and a second port. The network interface device also includes a buffer in the active path configured to absorb, attenuate, terminate, or isolate radio-frequency (RF) signals. The invention relates to a crypt key system applicable to a television system, a database system or an electronic commercial transaction system or the like. This system consists of a broadcasting station 11, a database 12, a receiving apparatus 14, a data communication apparatus 15 and a user terminal 18. As a crypt key system, a secret-key cryptosystem, a public-key cryptosystem, and a digital signature system are used. The keys used in the system are either encrypted or remain uncrypted to be supplied by broadcasting. The present invention is effective in the prevention of an unjustified use of the database system, managing copyrights, and in a pay-per-view system and a video-on-demand system. Further, the present invention is effective in realizing an electronic market which uses an electronic data information system.
