The wireless linkage uses low power radio frequency waves to send and receive signals between the ear piece and the cellular telephone transceiver unit. Both the ear piece and the cellular telephone transceiver unit require power which is supplied by batteries. Both the ear piece and the cellular telephone transceiver may be recharged by simply placing them in a docking station.

The intertwining process may be used to form a bifurcation for a headset. A dipping process may be used to cover the jacket with a coating. The coating may be formed over the entire length of the cable or may be formed in a particular portion of the cable such as the portion of the cable that includes the bifurcation.

An ear piece is formed for insertion and placement in an external auditory canal, preferably for deep insertion and in close vicinity of a tympanic membrane inwardly bounding the auditory canal. The ear piece has an inflatable balloon which, when it is inflated, expands and braces against the walls of the auditory canal. When it is deflated, it may be withdrawn from the auditory canal. The ear piece has a receiver module with a sound generator and a connection to an exterior device (e.g., a hearing aid, an MP3 player, a cell phone). The receiver module is integrally formed with a pressure relief valve that allows the balloon to be deflated by external activation. A pull cord pulls a valve piston off a valve seat, whereupon the pressure in the balloon is relieved and the ear piece may be pulled out of the auditory canal.

A method comprising:obtaining static data from an ear canal of a subject, the static data including a three-dimensional image of a surface of the ear canal at a predetermined pressure;obtaining dynamic data from the ear canal of the subject, the dynamic data including data from the ear canal characterizing a shape change of the ear canal in response to a musculoskeletal movement of a head of the subject;correlating the shape change to the musculoskeletal movement to identify a surface region of the ear canal where the shape change due to the musculoskeletal movement meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold;providing an earpiece design including a three-dimensional model of an earpiece fitted to the ear canal based upon the static data; andpositioning an input transducer in the earpiece design in a location corresponding to the surface region of the ear canal when the earpiece is placed for use in the ear canal.2. The method of further comprising fabricating an earpiece including the input transducer according to the earpiece design.3.
