Compensation of rising frequency response in passive current-driven loudspeakers

The sound quality of electro-dynamic loudspeakers can be very much improved by feeding the speaker drivers with a current signal instead of the conventional voltage signal. Current-mode is achieved, when the source impedance seen by the driver is high compared to the driver's own impedance. The problem is that, under current-drive, the rising frequency response of a typical cone-type speaker cannot be equalized simply by adding an RC-network in parallel with the driver because then the high source impedance is lost. In this solution a dual voice coil 4a, 4b speaker driver is used together with a current dividing network 5, 6, 7 that disables one of the voice coils at high frequencies, thus producing the required response correction while still preserving relatively high source impedance. Other embodiments are disclosed (figs 5 and 6).

[Problem] To provide a speaker that is capable of emitting higher-volume and clearer sounds which hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals can hear together without inconvenience by not suppressing vibration of the curved diaphragm and therefore efficiently transmitting kinetic energy converted from the electric energy of a sound signal to a curved diaphragm, and also has a reduced weight and size and is easy to manufacture. [Solution] A speaker of the present invention includes: a diaphragm curved in one direction; a driver unit that vibrates the diaphragm in accordance with an inputted electric signal; and a frame body supporting the diaphragm and the driver unit. One end side and another side of the diaphragm in the direction of curvature are attached to the frame body via edge parts that do not interfere with the vibration. Also, the driver unit is in contact with one surface of the diaphragm and fixedly attached to the frame body. 1. Sound emanating from the high-frequency diaphragm of a coaxial speaker will diffract into the annular gap between the tweeter unit and the midrange cone. This results in response irregularities. We therefore disclose a loudspeaker, comprising first and second drivers located substantially coaxially with the first driver located centrally and the second driver located concentrically around the first driver, the loudspeaker being bounded at its radially outer side for at least part of its extent by the voice coil former of the second driver and including a spacing between the outermost extent of the first driver and the innermost extent of the second driver thus defining an annular space, the annular space containing a sound-absorbent material. By placing the sound-absorbing material in the annular space, the resonances within this space are damped, thus alleviating their effect. The annular space can have a lower resonant frequency that is below the passband of the first driver. Essentially, instead of minimising the effect of the annular gap by reducing its size and seeking to seal its outer opening, we propose to enlarge the space so that the fundamental resonant frequency it exhibits drops out of the passband of the high-frequency driver and hence out of the frequency range of interest. This both prevents the fundamental frequency of the cavity from being excited, and also allows sufficient room within the space to accommodate a sound-absorbent material to absorb these undesirable resonances. 1. A multi-driver transducer having symmetrical magnetic circuits and symmetrical coil circuits, wherein one or more pieces of circular or annular partitions made of a non-magnetic material are used to bond two or more sets of dual magnetic gap and dual coil driver units ( or ) into one integrated magnetic core. Four or more coaxial isodiametric annular magnetic gaps are formed between the inner circumferential face or outer circumferential face of one or two tubular magnetic yokes embedded in an open-end tubular thin wall of the bracket and the vertical circumferential face of an upper pole plate and a lower pole plate of the magnetic core, four or more coaxial and isodiametric coils are inserted in the four or more coaxial and isodiametric annular magnetic gaps, and the winding direction, connection manner, and necessary technical features of the coils are governed; thus, the multi-driver transducer having one or more pairs of mutually-repelling magnets, symmetrical magnetic circuits, and symmetrical coil circuits is constituted. Back electromotive force and inductance acquired via induction by the transducer during the working process are mutually offset. The transducer has resistive load features or near-resistive load features, and has super-high sensitivity, high resolution, and high-fidelity quality. 1. Systems and methods for generating sound, detecting sound, and generating and detecting sound are provided. An array of audio transducers can be provided whereby each audio transducer in the array can be optimized for a narrow range of sound frequencies. When operating at or close to its resonant frequency, a transducer can generate (and/or detect) sound with a higher efficiency and less distortion as compared to other frequencies. Accordingly, sound may be divided into component signals such that each transducer is only responsible for generating (and/or detection) sound close to its resonant frequency. This sound reproduction (and/or detection) technique can increase efficiency, and therefore, can increase the total output volume that an array can generate using a given amount of input power when generating sound (and/or increase the total output power that an array can generate using a given amount of input volume when detecting sound).

A loudspeaker comprises a first acoustically radiating moving-coil transducer and a second acoustically radiating moving-coil transducer. Each transducer is actively driven by an electrical input signal. The first and second transducers are substantially coaxial and at least part of the second transducer is positioned within a central gap of the first transducer such that the voice-coil assemblies of the two transducers are arranged concentrically and are separated by an annular gap. The gap is substantially sealed by a compliant coupling means such that the two transducers move substantially in unison when the loudspeaker reproduces an input signal that has a frequency below a certain threshold value, but move substantially independently when the loudspeaker reproduces an input signal that has a frequency above the threshold.
