An MTC WTRU may store an individual international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) associated with the MTC WTRU, and a group-based IMSI associated with the MTC group that the MTC WTRU belongs to. The MTC WTRU may use one or both IMSIs to receive paging messages. When the MTC WTRU receives a paging message, the MTC WTRU may compare a recipient IMSI contained in the paging message to the individual IMSI and the group-based IMSI. If the recipient IMSI matches the individual IMSI and the group-based IMSI, the MTC WTRU may proceed to process the paging message.

The invention relates to a method for controlling the maximum bit rate for a bearer used for data transmission over a packet-switched network using a specified access point for a group of mobile entities. A PDN gateway enforces the maximum bit rate for the group, the APN group AMBR. This is possible as all mobile entities belonging to said group are connected to the same PDN gateway for a certain access point name APN. This is obtained by providing a PDN gateway information into an update location acknowledgement message sent from the HSS to the MME.

A scheme to reduce the problem of radio interference between wireless devices such as MTC devices in a multi-RAT scenario. The scheme provides an additional stability mechanism for existing interference mitigation and co-existence schemes by using device management and avoiding potential conflicts across diverse systems. The base station device and one or more radio transmitter devices could be selected to be a transmission point, a reception point or a combination thereof, for each wireless device. Information relating to a transmission power of the base station device is also transmitted to the at least one wireless device. An uplink signal is received from the at least one wireless device containing information relating to an uplink power determination that is based on the reference signal and the information relating to the transmission power of the base station device.

Technology is discussed for self-optimization approaches within wireless networks to optimize networks for energy efficiency, load capacity, and/or mobility, together with new, supporting channel state measurements and handover techniques. New, Channel State Information-Reference Signals (CSI-RSs) for yet-to-be-configured Cell-IDentifications (Cell-IDs) can be used to determine whether adjacent transmission cells can provide coverage for transmission cells that can be switched off for energy efficiency during formation of a Single Frequency Network (SFN). New approaches are also discussed to facilitate mobility within such a network. The new CSI-RSs and mobility approaches can also be used to split up such a SFN when changing load demands so require. Additionally, such new approaches can be used to create a SFN with a common Cell-ID where high mobility is required, such as near a roadway, and to break it up where high capacity is required, such as during a period of traffic congestion.

Each set of transport format schemes is associated to a respective guard time, which guard time is a time margin required to compensate for the communication device being unsynchronized for transmission to the base station. After determining ( 203 ) a required guard time as the maximum timing advance value used in the cell the base station selects ( 204 ) one set of transport format schemes from the plurality of sets of transport format schemes to be available for the cell. The set is selected such that its associated guard time matches the determined required guard time in the cell.

Methods and devices for optimizing on-time throughput in a wireless network. An enhanced node B (eNodeB) integrating two or more air interfaces schedules transmissions, for a measurement period, over at least one of the two or more air interfaces. The eNodeB estimates, based on the transmissions, a metric of on-time throughput for the user equipment (UE) within the cell, where on-time throughput is a measure of an amount of data that arrives at a destination before a delay threshold has been reached and at a bit-rate greater than or equal to a target bit-rate. The eNodeB then assigns UEs within the cell to an air interface of the two or more air interface to maximize the metric of on-time throughput for the UEs within the cell.

Additionally, an eNB may provide a wireless cell and provide, to an MTC UE, an MTC policy that identifies a circumstance under which the eNB will permit MTC traffic. The eNB may be configured to selectively serve the MTC UE based on the MTC policy.
