A movement monitoring device (MMD) for action sports has a detector for sensing motion associated with action sports, a processor for processing data from the detector to determine one or more movement metrics, and a communications port for wirelessly relaying the movement metrics to a remote location. A method collects motion data within action sports, including: detecting motion of a person or object engaged in action sports; determining one or more events associated with the motion; and wirelessly relaying the events to a remote network. One MMD for action sports is formed within a cell phone having a detector for sensing motion associated with action sports and a processor for processing data from the detector to determine one or more movement metrics for (a) display to a person using carrying the cell phone during action sports or (b) relaying the movement metrics to an external network for review by others.

Electronic device assemblies may have multiple parts. A first electronic device assembly structure may be attached to a second electronic device assembly structure using a locking member. The locking member may include a tip portion that is inserted into a guiding channel in the assembly and a disposable portion that breaks away from the tip portion during assembly. Barbs on the locking member tip may resist retraction of the tip following assembly. A cam locking structure may help hold the first and second structures together. Locking features may resist longitudinal motion between the first and second structures. Snap features may provide a fail-safe mechanism to prevent disassembly of the assembly following an accidental dislodgement of the tip portion. The tip portion and assembly structures may be configured to resist bowing in the assembly structures.

The device may have an off screen gesture area that accepts user input outside the display area. The interface inputs received in the off screen gesture are may have special handling and cause different display changes. Further, the device, having two screens, may receive user interface inputs that cross the seam between the two displays. To provide a display that acts like a single display area, the device can predict motions may cross the seam and then interrelate separate inputs on separate screens. The interrelated inputs can cause display changes as if the inputs were received as a single user interaction.
