In hot strip plants, after casting, the residual heat of a partial quantity of the slabs has hitherto been used such that the slabs either are directly rolled or are placed warm or hot in the furnace. The remaining slabs normally cool after casting in a hall through which flows air and are stacked before their further transport. The same applies to the residual heat present in the coils after winding, which often cool in the coil-storage area in air. The cooling energy of the continuous-casting plant likewise escapes unused into the surroundings. In order to convert this unused solidification heat and residual heat into electric energy, it is proposed according to the invention that the slabs ( 10 ) are cast in a continuous-casting plant and the slabs ( 10 ) or coils are transported into the slab-storage area ( 12 ) or coil-storage area and during the casting in heat exchangers ( 31 ) and/or during the transport in heat exchangers ( 31 ) heat is extracted and/or there are deposited in part one on top of the other in specially prepared storage areas ( 30 ) provided with heat exchangers ( 31 ) for a short time or several hours, wherein in this transport period the cast billet or the slab ( 10 ) and/or in the storage period the residual heat of the slabs ( 10 ) or coils is transferred via heat conduction and thermal radiation and convection via the heat exchangers ( 31 ) into a heat-transfer medium such as, for example, thermal oil, and heats it, which then is discharged via heat-transfer transport lines ( 33 ) for power generation and/or direct use of the process heat by other heat consumers.

A system for producing potable water from a non-potable water source includes a renewable energy power generator, a water purifier fluidly connected to the non-potable water source for providing the potable water, and electrically coupled to the renewable power generator, a hydrogen generator electrically coupled to the renewable energy power generator and fluidly connected to the water purifier for receiving a portion of the potable water, a hydrogen fueled turbine generator fluidly coupled to the hydrogen generator, a hydrogen storage system fluidly coupled to the hydrogen generator and the hydrogen fueled turbine generator, and a control system communicatively coupled to the renewable energy power generator, the non-potable water source, the water purifier, the hydrogen generator and the hydrogen fueled turbine generator. The control system controls feed of the non-potable water source to the water purifier to produce a desired quantity of the potable water, and the portion of the potable water to the hydrogen generator produces hydrogen to power the hydrogen fueled turbine generator to provide a portion of electric power when the renewable energy power generator is unable to produce the portion.

The power converters are coupled to a load and provide a combined power converter output to the load. A switch is coupled in series between the PCC and an external grid. When the switch is closed, the power system is in a grid-tied configuration and when the switch is open, the power system is in a microgrid configuration. A control system coupled to the power converters enables the switch to open and close in response to a signal received from one or more sensors monitoring the external grid, enables the power converters to operate in a current control mode when the switch is closed, and transitions the power converters from grid-tied mode to microgrid mode and synchronize the power converters such that the converters share the load.

The optimized mine ventilation system of this invention supplements mine ventilation basic control systems by establishing a dynamic ventilation demand as a function of real-time tracking of machinery and/or personnel location and where this demand is optimally distributed in the work zones via the mine ventilation network and where the energy required to ventilate is minimized while totally satisfying the demand for each work zones. The optimized mine ventilation system operates on the basis of a predictive dynamic simulation model of the mine ventilation network along with emulated control equipment such as fans and air flow regulators. The model always reaches an air mass flow balance where the pressure and density is preferably compensated for depth and accounts for the natural ventilation pressure flows due to temperature differences. Model setpoints are checked for safety bounds and sent to real physical control equipment via the basic control system. 1.
