A conduit extends upwardly from the upper portion of the plenum, the conduit communicating with the interior volume of the plenum and has external threads for receiving a threaded nut thereon. The conduit is adapted and provided for extending through an aperture in the geomembrane for withdrawing sub-surface gas from within the interior volume of the plenum and through the geomembrane. A gasket having an opening formed therein is slipped over the conduit and above the geomembrane so that the geomembrane is sandwiched between the gasket and the upper portion of the plenum. A threaded nut is fitted to the conduit and above the gasket for securing the gasket against the geomembrane, thereby sealing the geomembrane to the upper portion of the plenum.

The control system may adjust a position of the valve in response to determining that the pressure at the location upstream of the valve indicates that there is a risk of landfill gas being released into the atmosphere.

The method aims to cover residual salt tips created during salt processing, for the purpose of re-cultivation and grassing-over. Bindeable residual materials and further fillers are mixed with water or a watery salt solution, to form a green granulate of low cohesion. The green granulate is applied to the tip from above, pref. in free fall. The bindeable component and filler materials are mixed at a ratio of 20:80 to 30:70 in a mixer, and 10-30% of water/solution is added, so that a rolling crumbly granulate is achieved. Cohesion of the material on the tip increases steadily, resulting in an even thin layer. The materials are pref. power station ashes and e.g. water-insoluble clay-like aluminum oxide, created during processing of aluminum slag.

Method of processing solid municipal wastes

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of environmental protection and will find application in reconstruction of solid household waste storage and processing sites. Method of processing solid municipal wastes involves separation of waste by screening on screens, removal of target and by-side wastes from the screening part of the screen for further processing and cleaning of undersize screenings from heavy and non-ferrous metals. For this purpose, within the limits of polygon boundaries a sanitation site is formed, which is covered with waterproofing. On this platform there placed is mesh sifting with layer of 0.25–0.30 m with addition of sorbent in form of fine powder of iron-magnesium aluminosilicate (for example, "Agroionit") in amount of 8–16 % of weight of dry undersize screenings. Above this layer the same next layer of undershoot screenings is laid with addition of sorbent. Layered laying of screenings in mixture with sorbent is performed till stack with height of 1.4–1.6 m is formed. Formed mass is held for 6–48 hours at moisture content of 40–60 % HB and then used for layer-by-layer intermediate insulation of the surface of newly supplied municipal waste. At that, cleaned from solid municipal wastes area is covered with sorbent in form of fine powder of iron-magnesium aluminosilicate in amount of 8–16 % of weight of soil layer with depth of 0.25–0.30 m, and soil is cultivated at this depth. Then the newly delivered solid household waste burial is stored with a four-fold compaction and covered up with the soil produced during sorting. After reaching the design marks of the given section of the site they again create on the surface of the section a waterproof cover made out of the sorted out soil and start to develop a following section. Return to the previously developed section of the site of solid household waste burial is expedient in 20 years. The invention ensures an increase of the dates of expected lives of the existing sections of sites of solid household waste burial at maintaining correspondence of the sites to the modern ecological requirements and preservation of natural resources. SUBSTANCE: method uses arc-plasma torch for vitrification and sanitation of waste burial containing domestic garbage and contaminated soils due to pouring of toxic materials or due to burial of contaminated objects. According to first version of invention, several holes are drilled in mass of material at definite distance from one another, after which arc-plasma torch is introduced in each hole for pyrolysis, sanitation and vitrification of wastes and making the molten materials cold down and harden. In course of this process, gaseous by-products are formed; these by-products are accumulated in hood connected to scrubber and to chemical cleaning plant. Resultant gases are commercially useful gases which may be used as fuel; vitrified sediment has lesser volume as compared with volume of starting material of wastes. Contaminated soil or underground deposits are subjected to pyrolysis, molten or hardened with the aid of plasma torch which is placed in operation on bottom of vertical well having envelope, after which it is gradually raised to surface. System of wells arranged in definite order makes it possible to sanitate all mass of contaminated material. Buried objects, such as metal containers filled with contaminants and underground reservoirs- storages may be selectively sanitized directly at point of burial. Also, the reclamation can be stabilized by increasing soil strength through laying and compaction process of the geosynthetic fibers while forming a layer with a predetermined thickness from a bottom of the landfill site.
