A truss assembly of floor or roof trusses and connector hangers are disclosed for attaching respective ends of a truss to a beam extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the truss. The hanger includes a connecting plate having a plurality of teeth struck out from the plate so as to extend perpendicular from the connecting plate with the strap and the connecting plate being mutually perpendicular. The strap has a plurality of apertures adapted for receiving nails or like fasteners and extends the entire length of the outside edge of the connecting plate to which the strap is joined and projects past the connecting plate to provide a surface for securing the strap to the wooden beam. The strap is rectangular in shape and bent to a generally U shape so as to define three sections. The first section extends along and past the outside edge of the connecting plate to which it is attached, and this section is connected to the first side of the wooden beam by fasteners extending through the apertures into the wood. The second and third sections can be connected respectively to the top and side of the wooden beam by fasteners extending through the apertures therein. The truss assembly is preferably attached to the wooden beam by "left" and "right" hangers of "mirror image" configuration which have their respective connecting plates attached to opposed sides of the truss in proximity to its end and offset vertically with respect to the top of the beam; the respective sections of the straps are attached to the sides and top of the beam in a parallel configuration.

A drilling tool is proposed comprising a shaft which has both a chuck shaft suitable for fitting in machine tools and a drill-holding shaft, known per se, with chuck grooves and (optionally) coolant ducts. A replaceable drill bit (1) is fitted in a positive fit and detachably on the shaft. The drill bit can consist of a homogenous material and has cutting edges (2) inclined radially outwards and backwards; these cutting edges can be formed in one piece from the drill bit material or are composed of blades mounted in the central region and made from the drill bit material and complementary blades originating from a cutter plate screwed onto the drill bit. The invention proposes that the cutting edges (2) should be aligned symmetrically about the drill bit axis and the cutting edges should be in cutting engagement over the entire radius of the bore to be drilled. Special securing devices comprising a pin with a fixing bore (7) and carrier grooves (5) on the outer circumference of the drill bit make it possible to fix the drill bit in matching securing devices on the drill shaft. In one particular embodiment, the drill bit in the drill shaft is clamped on matching wedge-shaped fitting surfaces. The invention is used preferably for spot drilling or boring of solid material as well as packet drilling and spot drilling of oblique surfaces of workpieces, the preferred diameter range being 5 to 50 mm. The drill bit can be re-ground or fitted with new screw-cutting plates or replaced after use with a new plate by simply releasing the positive-fit mount.

An indexable insert drill is disclosed that avoids formation of a breakout slug and therefore is particularly suited for drilling a laminate workpiece or stacked workpieces. The tool includes a cylindrical body provided with opposed flutes. A radially inner indexable carbide insert is releasably secured in the back wall of one flute at the leading end of the body and a radially outer insert is similarly secured in the back wall of the opposed flute. The inserts present an active cutting edge generally disposed in a transverse plane containing the axis of the tool and in axially leading relation relative to the tool body, and together are adapted to cut a hole of given diameter with the active cutting edges providing for overlap therebetween. The active cutting edges of the respective inserts have an axially leading point adjacent to their inner extremity disposed in a common plane generally normal to the tool axis and extend obliquely therefrom at a trailing angle relative to that common plane with the active cutting edge of the inner insert having a lesser trailing angle than the active cutting edge of the outer insert. The location and orientation of the inserts in the tool body providing for their respective active cutting edges to cut paths that intercept each other such that each insert will cut a pair of radially spaced chip segments as the tool progresses relative to a workpiece.
